So I assume they're done with the 'origin story' by now?

At the outset, Daniel Craig's Bond was supposed to be a 'younger, rougher, less experianced' Bond. CR LITERALLY showed him earning his stripes in the 00 Section and becoming the agent we all know and love. But even QOS showed him as a bit of a rough diamond who shoots first and asks questions later...and who's relationship with M is still evolving.

Which makes me wonder...will Bond finally be portrayed as a veteran secret agent and 00 in this film? Has Craig's Bond finally caught up, in terms of age and experience, with say, the Connery Bond at least?

Hmm, well I reckon since 'Quantum Of Solace', in film years, it's also been about 4-5 years passing until the events of 'Skyfall', so that will be 6-7 years Bond has been an active 00-agent.

He's learnt about trust, the consequences his emotions and reactions can give and also let Vesper Lynd go so I think this will be a clean slate for our current 007 with almost, if not the same, skills, reactions, awareness and confidence we see from Sean Connery in his first outing in 'Dr.No', to also help bring the series full circle for 50 years - from one experienced secret agent to another.

I think so. I am sure I read a few interviews in the early pre-production stages where they said just that. That this would be full on classic Bond with a bit more humour and panache to the character. The trailers seem to suggest it will be just that, albeit with a new twist for Bond (nothing he didn't go through in the books). So far there's plenty of evidence of humour, exotic style, a great 'Bond, James Bond', martinis, dinner jacket, casino, PPK, shoulder holster, retro styling and plenty of steamy sex...

I am sure they will be doing their best to fully package and polish this film as classic 007. I'll be pretty damn surprised too if the gunbarrel isn't right here it's supposed to be and also modelled a little closer on the original. A cool and less annoying nod to the 50th would be to have the radio bleeping from Dr No right before the white dots. I'd also be surprised if they aren't using the Bond theme a bit more fully in this one too.

I don't think we need to look back any further. Although every film does follow the "OO7 formula", each one tries to have its own hook, separating it from the others. (like Bond's wedding in OHMSS... or Bond's resignation in LTK). CR's hook was the exploration into Bond's past. Having gone there, I don't see the need for the producers to return to that angle. I remember in previous interviews before his death, Cubby Broccoli had not wanted to look backward into OO7's origins. I believe it was Michael Wilson's wish to do that and when the rights to CR were secured, that gave him his opportunity.

Some films are cardboard cutouts of the adventures that preceded them, making them forgetable "Did you see that Bond movie where the bad guy tries to destroy the world but OO7 stops him with seconds to spare & then kills the him, blows up his home & steals his girlfiend?"
And then there are a choice few that stand out... BECAUSE they are different. One example that comes to mind is this hook discovered half way throught TWINE. Never before or since has the main antagonist been a beautiful woman. It made me stop & wonder how Bond was going to deal with her. But we weren't disappointed. He dispatched her coldly & efficiently with extreme predjudice. It's going to be interesting to learn what SKYFALL's hook is going to be.

In one of the trailers, M says that Bond is somewhere in the South China Sea. When pressed further for being rather vague, she says that "when you've worked with Bond as long as I have, you realize that somewhere in the South China Sea is precise intelligence." So clearly, Bond is now a veteran agent who is closer in experience to the Bond of old as opposed to the one we see in CR and QOS.

Which trailer is this one? Haven't seen it.

Having said that, its nice to know that Daniel Craig's Bond has finally 'come of age' as it were.
