I'm always interested in learning more about unused and/or rejected ideas from the past. We know that one idea Michael G. Wilson and Richard Maibaum had early on during the development of the first post-Moore film was to delve into Bond's history, they wrote an origin story treatment but it didn't go past that stage.

So I've been wondering, are there any details available on what was in that treatment? Articles or interviews that talk about the story, the villain its pre-00 Bond would have to deal with, etc.?

We know a lot about the early Bond XVII treatment, but there doesn't seem to be much info on this prequel treatment. Searching around, all I've been able to find out is that it had Bond as a Lieutenant in the Royal Navy. I have this feeling that I've heard more than that about it before, but then I think I might just be getting it confused with elements from the Young Bond novels.

Great thread - can't wait to learn more about this.

I wonder if it was a contemporary (most likely) or period (WWII) setting....
