Excuse my laziness, but I'm not sure where my dvds are at the moment anyway - but did Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace have the old, 'James Bond will return' line at the end of the credits? I can't remember. I'm pretty sure I didn't see it at the end of QoS at least...

Will it be at the end of Skyfall? It came up in an unrelated thread and made me wonder. I like that little Bond tradition, and I suddenly realised that I don't think I've ever seen it in any other film series.

Hi Leon!

Yeah, both 'CR' and 'QOS' did at the very end of the titles, I think it was actually after the credits rolled and was on the studio logo, at the very very end.

With news of Bond 24 confirmed for 2014, hopefully we'll get a good 'James Bond Will Return...' at the end of 'Skyfall' and maybe even a future title...but that's wishing too soon!!

These days, I don't think they even begin inventing a title until they have a script. But they could always drop a crazy fake title on us, like "Zographos and the Chocolate Homunculus", and send us into a frenzy of speculation.

Announcement of a title realistically could only be expected if they already had an idea about the story; not much probability there. But who knows, maybe one of these days they hire someone for the script who comes up with an absolutely killer idea for two or three films and they agree to do it? Otherwise I'm afraid 'James Bond will return' will have to do for us.

Yeah, to be fair, back in the day they could drop a title as they just picked which novel/story they were going to adapt for screen so it was pretty much pre-written!

Today, unless they film back to back which I don't think it possible for such a demanding shoot as a Bond film, as you say, as long as we still get 'James Bond Will Return...', I'll be happy. Couple that with the 2014 announcement...VERY happy!

Bahaha. Love it. Let the Gulshan Grover rumours commence.

What if they put in the years for the next few?
Ex) "James Bond will return 2014."
Bad?

Only if they don't deliver by December 2014.

If they are sure of their act - why not? But then they'd really have a few people working on it already.

The main problem with that is the fact it ages the film on future broadcasts of it in years to come.

But the films age themselves in other more obvious ways. CRT monitors and dial up modems anyone?

Yep, unfortunately I think we won't get much more than "James Bond will return".
Yet I'd love to see a title attached to it, though I highly doubt they would have come up with one in just a few months time, considering how long it took to get the current title.

As EON today are doing practically nothing but original screenplays there's hardly a chance things are ever going to veer much from the industry standard, which just means lengthy work on different versions of a script (under different titles even?) and a market analysis researching the potential of a number of possible final titles. Final say may come very late in the day. And maybe the studio also interferes with such decisions. Wasn't PRINCESS OF MARS renamed JOHN CARTER relatively close to the teaser?

I believe it was called JOHN CARTER FROM MARS before the marketing department cried out: NO FILM WITH MARS IN THE TITLE EVER MADE MONEY.

To think what JOHN CARTER would have grossed with the original title...

Unfortunately you're quite right of course.
Oh, well, couldn't we get "James Bond will return in Working Title"?!... ;)

I didn't say have a title for the next film, just have 'James Bond will return.' (...)

Like they did in the Brosnan films, TND, TWINE and I believe DAD. Thats what I would at least expect in the films ever since.

(...) If they are sure of their act - why not? But then they'd really have a few people working on it already.

I hope they do. I would think Skyfall probably sets up a few things and they already have an idea of what Bond 24 will be about.

"James Bond will return........... pending Studio Litigation."

Any other time I would laugh about it but I sure hope they can met the 2014 deadline they set.

"James Bond will return... but not in 2014 as promised - the president of Sony just got a little ambitious by claiming that; we haven't even begun to think about the next one yet."

Let's hope not.

I'd be happy with something like the GE or TND credits. I think TND is the last films to not end with the Bond theme.

Sadly, I was paraphrasing exactly what Craig and Broccoli said in the interviews released earlier.

Oh really? I missed that interview.
I would hope they would say that. Apple doesn't tell you they are going to release a better version of what your buying in another 6 months or it wouldn't sale as well.
Maybe thats not the best example but don't the procducers say that everytime they are making a film. Doesn't every film say that when in production about a sequel, Well we are really just so thrilled about this one, we haven't thought of the next one yet. Otherwise, I'm just getting the impression the producers are lazy and just want time to count their money.

Why? The titles always have interesting music. Whether it be some more songs for the soundtrack album, or a medly of all the themes that were used in the film.

I watch the full credits each and every time I see a movie in the theater.

At the end of the first Christopher Reeve Superman movie it said at the very end, "Next Year, SUPERMAN II"

It wasn't. So at the end of Superman II, it simply said, "Coming Soon, SUPERMAN III"

Sadly, I was paraphrasing exactly what Craig and Broccoli said in the interviews released earlier.

http://collider.com/...75/#more-162975

The specific portion.

Last week Rory, the president of distribution of Sony, announced Bond 24 for I guess late 2014…
Broccoli: He was getting a little overexcited (laughs). We’re just actually focusing on this movie. One hopes that in the future we’ll be announcing other films, but no one’s officially announced it.

Actually, it was an announcement -- by Sony, which pays all the bills (for Skyfall and for Bond 24), rather than by Eon. Also, in another one of these interviews she said "nothing had been announced" that Ben Whishaw would play Q. At the same time, Sam Mendes did an interview where he said Whishaw was playing Q.

Whether any of this means Bond 24 is coming out in 2014 remains to be seen. But an announcement is the end of the process. Just because something hasn't been announced doesn't mean it's not going to happen.
