I've been posting some original newspaper ads for the John Gardner books on my blog. I love this stuff.

Wonderful ads. Thanks for scanning & sharing. Too bad B. Dalton and Waldenbooks are no more.

It is too bad.

I worked in a Waldenbooks in 1984-85 (it was the "Broadway Plaza" one listed in this ad). Our rival was a B. Dalton downstairs. On my lunch break one day I walked past the B. Dalton and there was ROH on display in the window. I hadn't seen it yet! I dashed back to my store and ripped open all the boxes in the back until I found our shipment. :)

Crown Books really knocked off B. Dalton and Waldenbooks (I have some Crown ads for Gardner as well). Then Barnes & Noble and Borders knocked off Crown. Now Amazon has knocked off everyone.
