Well you can't get anymore 'British' than this for the opening of the London Olympic games! Looking forward to it, and a great shoe-horn for Bond to get in on the worlds stage!
It feels a bit cringe to me though

Struck me as an April Fool's joke.
the closest I'd heard to this rumor was that Duran Duran would be performing.

And I agree it sounds cheesy, but I have faith that Boyle and Craig will try make it lighthearted at least, but not stoop to cheese levels...as if it were Roger Moore doing it back in the day!

Arise, Sir James: the Queen has ‘knighted’ 007 in film for Olympics opening ceremony
After more than 50 years on Her Majesty’s Secret Service, the MI6 agent with a licence to kill may finally get a knighthood.
Buckingham Palace sources have told the Londoner that James Bond, played by Daniel Craig, has secretly received the sword’s tap on his shoulder from the Queen.
The actor, who has been shooting new Bond movie Skyfall, was seen at the Palace with a film crew last month.
“Daniel Craig was here in black tie one morning in early April,” says a source. “Judi Dench [who plays M, the head of MI6] was also here, and the talk of the Palace was that Bond was going to be knighted that morning.”
Ah, just saw Vauxhall's post.

Two helicopters have flown through Tower Bridge in London, filming footage that is believed to appear in the James Bond feature to open the Olympic games this summer.
Yesterday evening, a helicopter with a camera mounted on the front followed a second sporting the colours of the Union Jack through Tower Bridge in central London.
The Port of London Authority has confirmed the filming was related to the upcoming Olympic Games.
This news fits in well with the recent rumours that Daniel Craig would be opening the London 2012 Olympic Games by climbing down a rope ladder attached to a helicopter, hovering above the Olympic stadium.
Filming with Daniel Craig has already taken place at Buckingham Palace, with a cameo from Her Majesty the Queen also. The feature is being directed by Danny Boyle.

...and we see James Bond once he is inside the Palace where the exchange between him and the Queen takes place (not sure how it will be shot, but should be interesting!)...
...he then leaves as a helecopter awaits out in either the courtyard or Royal Gardens where he gets in and it takes off...
...this is then cut with maybe some exciting music or Bond theme and the footage of the chopper sweeping along the Thames is played as it approaches the Stadium...
...and I reckon the timing will have be perfect as the footage ends, the chopper is brought into the stadium with Craig inside, it opens and he gets out either via a tandem parachute drop or rope ladder...and we have James Bond on her majesty's secret service opening the Olympic Games!
Of course, I'm not Danny Boyle and could be way off but I'd love to see something like this pan out. Can't wait for it live!

He won't light the Olympic cauldron, but it's certainly conceivable that he'll be involved in the final stages of the torch relay.Maybe he takes the flame from the final torch bearer and lights the main Olympic flame? It would be quite an honour.

It seems down the list that the 'James Bond Theme' will be used during the opening, sounds like it's using musical themes that make Great Britian great and also music from all decades...good they use Bond!

I can't imagine Craig himself will be doing any stunts though...?
Perhaps they could do it like the Kobe docks sequence in You Only Live Twice. Bob Simmons did the fall, jumped up and out of a view and a moment later up popped Sean Connery.

That's pretty much what I was imagining, yeah.

From what I beleive Craig to be like as a performer and actor, I think he'll throw himself into the stunt work and do his best to do it all. I hope he does, anyway.

I dunno...with the eyes of the world watching, I think an absail down from the helecopter would be really hard to switch in a decent way unless the stuntman is so quick we can't see his face and he lands in a big box, so no-one around the 360 stadium can see in, and then Craig pops out.

I suspect he'll do it himself. He's (supposedly) absailing from the chopper, not (say) parachuting in. He's physically fit enough. And it will give him some streetcred back after the infamous lifejacket incident from the New Bond reveal.
And Skyfall has wrapped - so I doubt the Bond folk would stand in the way of him doing something slightly edgy.

True. Still, it sounds pretty dangerous. A change of wind... a chopper spinning out of control... missing a rung on the ladder...
Oh, boy. I´m such a scaredy cat...

Actually, if he does absail in, he'll probably get picked on for wearing a safety harness or a protective visor or something....oooooh, chicken Daniel Craig isn't tough enough for Bond! *sigh*
He's gonna rock in our eyes, I bet he'll do really well as he's proven he can get stuck into things and do the job!

*tut* That was so annoying, the lifejacket incident...I mean, that just was so picky to welcome a New Bond into the family. He did a grand job considering the rules he had to follow.

I think the whole thing annoyed him quite a lot at the time. And it will have too look Bondian - no faffing about when it comes to disengaging from the rope.
Having said all that, it is always possible that Craig will only be in the video bit and that a stuntman will do the actual absailing / stadium bit - with no Craig there at all (all filmed at an appropriate distance).
Would be much yummier if Craig did it himself though.

I always found it astonishing that he would get picked on for wearing his safety jacket. Why shouldn´t he have worn that? Bond certainly would have done that. Everybody with his senses together would have done that.
Naw, it was just a way for cruel journalists to pour hate on him.
That is mostly a thing of the past now, however.

I wouldn't normally, but if a marine told me to wear one I'd likely comply.
