Honestly, as much as I love Judi Dench and M, I think the M involvement is getting a bit redundant - unless they plan to kill her off at the end of SKYFALL. Then the stormy-sweet relationship that began with CR when Bond became a 00, through even more bumps and bruises in QOS eventually leading to even greater mutual respect, and finally culminating in a united battle against the baddies led by Bardem in SKYFALL - which ends with M dying for Bond.

If she survives, it will feel like a retread of TWINE. Killing her off would cap the so-called "M Trilogy" that started with CR....

Just my opinion...

What if she survives, but is forced to resign from her position? That wouldn't be a TWINE retread.

That would be acceptable... . But having her die, sacrificing herself for Bond like Vesper, would bring it full circle to CASINO ROYALE, even though they say SKYFALL is not connected plot-wise. Emotionally, it would be a trilogy....

If M dies, I don't think it will be some grand sacrifice so that Bond can continue with his mission. It's more likely to be a targeted assassination that Bond fails to prevent.

If M does indeed survive the events of Skyfall, mark my words she'll be in the next one. Even if she resigns, I bet you anything that she'll be a Leiter type character.

I agree if M survives I think she'll be in Bond24. I was thinking they are setting it up like they did for Q's character in TWINE in case something happened to him considering his old age. I think if Desmond Llewelyn was alive during the making of DAD he would have been in it.

I don't mind 'M' in a more supporting role, her appearence in 'Quantum Of Solace' was very good, a nice balance, but it just seems to me she's a major role player rather than the supporting and powerful figure she was in 'GoldenEye' and hinted at in 'Tomorrow Never Dies'. He screen time left us with the pleasure of seeing her have great screen time with Bond, and then be back there for when he needed her, not always getting so involved as much!

I think it's the problem stories of Bond going rogue where she is always involved, travelling the globe etc. Hopefully, we will see how 'Skyfall' goes but I think 'M' should be the 'M' we remember who didn't stray very far from MI6 into the field, and where we looked forward to the 'De-brief' scenes with 007. Heck, even when in the Roger Moore era, 'M' popped up in certain missions like 'Moonraker', it was a nice surprise to see him out from MI6 and it actually made he prescence feel more important and critical, rather than him following Bond every where he goes (back to 'The World Is Not Enough', 'Quantum Of Solace' etc).

That is what the characters of Robinson and Tanner were for...let's leave 'M' in the safety of her Security Service for a while now, get some field operatives back out with Bond!

....rant over again...sorry!!

I hope that M's increased role doesn't reduce the importance of the Bond Girls, Eve and Severine. M's increased presence in TWINE didn't impede Elektra or Christmas' participation. But I have a feeling that SKYFALL will feel and see much more of M's presence. There's speculation elsewhere on this board based on scene structure and shooting schedules that it appears neither Eve nor Severine may be involved in the climax (!). What the hell?

Oh, well... I'm sure Sam Mendes knows what he's doing....

I have faith in the producers and Mendes of course, but I see what you mean about detracting from a classic climax. It's part of the Bond ethos for the Bond girl to be with him to the end, so I hope we get that in 'Skyfall' for a good part of it. I think 'Skyfall' will be one of 'M's biggest movies, and I think she IS the Bond girl for this film!

I'm interested actually about Severine's part in the film. Very little has been reported/shot of her that we know of so I look forward to seeing what her role will be, and who's side she will be on at the end...!

For some reason, I don't like the focus of 'M' being pretty much Daniel Craig's new Bond girl...the London scenes I understand and to what I beleive the Scotland shots, but I sort of wish he would have the duo of a real Bond girl, not just 'M' linking him all the way through the films...I dunno.

Probably spouting rubbish, just a little niggle of mine that's come to a head, I hope we soon get an 'M' that simply does what 'M' should do and not get so involved in Bond's mission so much it's like it's the Bond and M show.

Rant over...sorry...!!

Ah yet another M hater has come to the surface! Thecasinoroyale, i'd never have thought it of you!

Nah i see what you mean. There are many people here who don't like M getting too involved, hell her screentime in TWINE was deemed 'too much' by some!

Since this is Judi's last Bond film, i suppose the story of Skyfall demanded her in a bigger role and we'll all just have to put up with it. Still, the attack on MI6, Bond speeding M away in a car and some moody exposition scenes in bars etc will show us Mendes' skill as a director, and add some much-needed grit to Bond. After all, QOS was an extremely superficial action-spectacle for most people, albeit an entertaining film.

I thought I heard Eve's character was in the finale action scene. I was under the impression it was the range rovers scene.

A lot of fans think that SF will be Dench's last Bond film (and that she will be succeeded by Fiennes) but this is only speculation.

No, it will be her last, i'm sure of it. Mostly due to health issues, the poor woman is going blind, she has to have scripts read to her when she's learning her lines now.

Whether or not she'll be succeeded by Fiennes remains to be seen.

I think the Range Rover scene is much earlier on. Probably in Turkey.

Darn you PPK_19! Nahh, don't get me wrong, I do like Judi Dench as 'M', but maybe it's the recent plots of her always being hot on Bond's heels watching everything he does, it's more annoying when she and the team pop up to have a moan or 'bring him in'.

If this is left behind in 'Skyfall' and she is simply caught up in that much trouble that Bond actually is working to save her and the Service itself, rather than her working out who/what to trust, then I will be happy enough, as long as the Bond girls are used as they should.

And as for Dame Judi's last Bond film, I too think it is...but that's fuelled by the speculation of others taking her role and the plot of the film itself. Guess we'll have to wait and see...!

Dame Judy has made it crystal clear, in interviews, that her eye condition does not lead to blindness. She's not going blind.

But I do think Skyfall is her swan-song as M.

There are certainly reasons to suppose that SF may be Dench's last Bond film: (1) her prominence in the narrative suggests that her character arc is being wrapped up, (2) her age-related medical issues seem more severe than in recent years, and (3) anonymous informants have suggested that Fiennes has been cast as the new M. But even if the producers themselves expect SF to be Dench's last entry, they will probably leave her fate ambiguous, so as not to forclose the possibility of her returning for another film.

Great M comments. Is the helicopter attack the finale action scene?

Looks that way, S K Y F A L L. So with the attack on MI6, London Underground/overground foot chase, London rooftops, Floating Casino, Range Rovers, Helicopter attack on lodge scenes, "all in all we're rather stocked!"

"Fully loaded, i think is the term"

"I think-'"

"You're not here to think, you're here to do what i tell you"....

The information came from the French James Bond Fan Club, who'd been invited onto the set for the filming of a scene that involved James Bond fighting a security guard, and featured a Komodo Dragon.

Whether it's a real Komodo Dragon, or not, remains to be seen.

So its not what some people have been saying Bond scrapping with a Komodo dragon as that would been very weird

Hi, CR and the rest of the gang: you probably already know this, but EMPIRE magazine is kicking off its 50th James Bond Anniversary celebration leading up to SKYFALL's release by doing a piece on the Bond Girls of SKYFALL. Nothing really new about Eve. Severine's piece is more interesting, and we learn that she will likely be firing a gun in some scenes. Berenice Marlohe shot at a firing range to help build her character.

We know Eve is definitely going to be part of SKYFALL's action. It appears that maybe Severine will be a little too? With her Bodyguards mentioned in the character list, as well as the fact that she is handy with a gun, it's looking more and more like Severine is kind of like Sabine Moreau in MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 4. I wonder if she's an assassin or something?

Anyhow, check out the latest issue of EMPIRE and the Girls of SKYFALL at newstands now....

No, not fighting the dragon itself, as far as we know.

I should think, if it's a real one, it's tethered in some way, and Bond and the guard get close to it during the fight, increasing the danger levels.

It could be that the Komodo Dragon breaks loose and drags the guard off at the end of the scene, or something like that.
