Just seen it over on BBC1. Amazing! Complete with a video montage of 50 years of Bond. Brilliant stuff.

Were any of the Bond actors there? It didnt show any of them in the audience as it did Judy Dench, but you'd think some of them would have been there.

I think Tom Jones has confirmed this directly, but I don't have a source. There are a number of websites that state it as fact and I believe it was mentioned in one of the Thunderball documentaries on the DVD.

Keep in mind that Tom Jones held the note for a LOOOOOONG time in the take used for the final version on the film's soundtrack, so it's not that far-fetched at all.


Also, I must agree that the arrangement at the BAFTAs wasn't great. I thought some of the instrumentation sounded like the audience laughing, but maybe that was just because I listened to it at a low volume... *shrug*

I´m pretty sure that Shirley Bassey said by herself that she had to hold the tune so long at the end of the song Goldfinger that she fainted when it was finished. Never heard that story from Tom Jones....

I'm pretty sure they both did, (or at least it was reported they both did). Bassey is on the Bond DVD documentary from either GF or the music of James Bond saying 'I nearly passed out'. I've read numerous sources over the years that Jones did too and I think the story originated from Don Black. It's certainly upheld in 'John Barry, a life in music' by Leonard, Walker and Bramley.
