The Quantum poster campaign was one of the worst ever, for any film. Certainly (not even close) the worst for a Bond film.

I thought the trailers, however, were quite excellent.

Yeah the theatrical trailer is mighty exciting. The teaser wasn't too bad but it recycled the music from one of the CR tv spots.

re: teaser trailer. On *some* occasions in the past, MGM has been able to get a Bond trailer attached to another studio's movie and vice versa. No guarantees that will happen again. If it goes, getting it attached to The Avengers in early May might be a possibility if MGM/Sony have something to trade (i.e. put this trailer on your movie, and I'll put that trailer on mine).

I don't know why the original post came out in such a small size and it wouldn't let me edit. So re-posting.

I'm old enough to remember the TB and YOLT poster campaigns, which to me were the acme of Bond posterdom. (Of course, I could just be drowning in nostalgia. We oldsters do that.) Sadly, that era is over and done. I appreciate the fact that for Craig's movies they've tried something different from the Brosnan era. But while I thought it worked once for CR, I thought QoS would've benefitted from something more imaginative, and something that showed a little more about what the movie was about. I'm hoping they try something different for SF.

But from the "look" of the last two Craig films I think the producers will stick with the photo format

The produers/Eon don't create the posters - the studio does.

I've just read on a French website that the first teaser poster of Skyfall will come tomorrow at 10 am. Is that true ?

Strange thing though, considering official images are being released tomorrow at 8am. Maybe the message board misunderstood and assumed we're getting a poster.

It's not nosalgia. Film posters in general have skyplumetted (alternate title perhaps? ;) ) as time's gone on. Nowadays, they're simplified to the point of being wholly uninteresting and uninspiring. I can't remember the last teaser or theatrical release one sheet that made me go "Aw, hell yeah!"

Actually, yes I can. It was Casino Royale's teaser, 2006 - http://old.commander...r_teaser_lg.jpg

Atmospheric, original, interesting. Simple isn't bad, but you need to be saying something. A film poster is a promise, and 90% of what's released now is just garbage with as many cast heads crammed in as possible.

How friggin' amazing would it be if Skyfall suddenly came out with a line of 60's inspired, retro posters? People would love that. And it's not like it would hurt business, either.

SKYPLUMMET. Much better title!

(Joking. I like Skyfall just fine.)

Wouldn't that be amazing if we could get that look back, if only for the 50th anniversary film? How cool would it be to have a drawing of line drawing of Craig in the same style as the original Dr. No art, with his gun hanging across his knee? Or something in the McGinnis/McCarthy style? Of course, I'd bankrupt myself buying copies of all of them, but I could live with that.

I'd love to see something a bit more retro for the poster as well. Something along the lines of the poster for Live and Let Die would be great.

A version that does a modern take on the Dr No poster would be cool. Probably wouldn't fit the film at all, but would be interesting nevertheless.

I found the posters to CR and QOS were very similar and I suspect that Skyfall will be to. That is a really cool idea of a retro poster though.

The final posters for the theatrical releases of the two films were pretty similar (Bond walking with a gun, looking off somewhere) with the Bond girl in close proximity.

The teaser posters, however, were quite different for the two. CR's teaser poster is, IMO, one of the best posters in the entire series. A real dark and moody picture of Bond at the poker table, which I thought gave off a pretty good indication of the vibe of the film. QoS' teaser poster was the exact opposite, simply a shadow on a road (or whatever we ultimately decided it was), and was one of the weaker posters we've had in the entire series.

My hope would be that, considering Sony (or whoever makes the decision) is most likely not going to return to a more retro look for the posters, they at least should try to replicate the quality of the CR teaser poster whenever they decide to get around to releasing a teaser poster here in the coming months.

A retro poster would be perfect. A mixture of a throwback to the old Bonds while retaining the excitement of Craig's film would be ideal I think.

i felt that the CR teaser poster was just ripping off the one of brosnan in GE except for the fact that in the CR teaser poster for whatever reason bond is broke and has to bet his ppk.

i also thought the QOS teaser poster of bond's shadow was pretty lame
but the 2 craig posters i thought were very similar i tried to post but was not allowed are;

First of all, that one of Brosnan is a publicity still and not a poster. Secondly, Bond isn't betting his PPK. He's just looking around warily. Also, the Royale and Solace theatrical posters are intentionally similar.

first of all,...(as i fix my glasses with my pointer finger) oh so sorry the "goldeneye publicity still" was similar to the casino teaser poster

and secondly for agreement sake i'll just say that he is betting his ppk because it is on the table and that is why he looks so warily because he just realized he blow his own cover

Rookie mistake. It was too early to promote him!

There's only so many ways you can place something on a table......

Also I'm pretty sure he was betting the pistol.

If we want to be pedantic about it we could always say that the symbolism constructed by the teaser was meant to convey Bond was betting his life on the game while still being very aware of his surroundings and dutty. Bull...it just looks good. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. It was a cool poster. Period.

Or that the Bond 'franchise' was betting it's own identity on the success of the reboot and new actor, IE Craig himself is literally pushing the PPK onto the table "all-in".

But hey, who really wants to discuss metaphors?

I just read that the first official photo is coming out tomorrow at 8am and is going to be in USA Today. Wasn't the first photo the one of Craig in the trunks at the pool? Hopefully a teaser poster is out tomorrow as well.

Lots of discussion in the Images spoilers thread. Consensus largely seems to be it will be a new photo, probably from on-set, and it won't be a teaser poster.
