From John Barry.org (http://www.johnbarry.org.uk/news.php) comes the annoucement of a new book on the music of James Bond written by Jon Burlingame. The author appeared on the C4 documentary 'James Bond's Greatest Hits', interviewed David Arnold and write the liner notes for the Chapter III release of Tomorrow Never Dies OST. No idea if this is an 'official' publication (ie authorised by Eon/MGM), but clearly being written with an eye to the 50th Anniversary as it is being published October 2012. Here's hoping this means we might get some more expanded OSTs next year.

These are the details from JohnBarry.org:

Jon Burlingame has announced on Facebook that his book, THE MUSIC OF JAMES BOND, will be published in October 2012 by Oxford University Press. This will be fifty years after Dr. No, the first movie in the series premièred.

"I accepted the assignment in part because I wanted to pay homage to John and his legacy. I think you'll all be very pleased."

Jon Burlingame writes about music for films and TV for Variety and teaches film-music history at USC.

Finally caved in and bought this revised edition, too, just for the SKYFALL chapter - and it already starts with two tidbits that surprised me:

- Newman was the first to approach Mendes, wishing to work on SKYFALL - not the other way round.

- Mendes did take a courtesy meeting with David Arnold before choosing to continue his collaboration with Newman.
