I have only read High Time to Kill, in places it's pretty descriptive...other than that it was pretty good. As for where you can get it in the UK, I have no idea. It can't be that hard to find, trying amazon.com if everything else fails

I'm with Zencat. HTTK is good stuff. The last of Benson's The Man With the Red Tattoo has some great moments and is solid as well. The Facts of Death is also a good read. I've enjoyed all of the Benson books and novelisations.

So, just tossing my hat in the ring. ;)

The Facts of Death is probably the most cinematic, and I'd say it follows the sort of fast thriller-style flow experienced with Deaver's book better than any of the others. That said, I enjoyed them all, with High Time to Kill being a favourite.

I too highly reccommend High Time to Kill. I also reccommend Zero Minus Ten.

IMCO, the only reason to read the others first would be for the sake of working your way up to these two. However, one might feel so let down by some of them that you might give up on Mr. Benson before reading these two gems.

So my advice would be to read ZMT and HTTK first, then lower your expectations before tackling the other four.

BTW, Coco, where do you find a copy of The Heart of Erzulie?

I would suggest the first one Zero minus Ten, which is the first one, and also Never Dream of Dying which is pretty much a conclusion to a series of Bond and finally The Man with the Red Tattoo, probably the second best one after Zero minus ten because I feel it does not have the fan fiction feel and more of actual novel to it

HTTK, no doubt about it.

However - to get them in time for XMas, you may need to get one of the two omnibuses of his novels. Either Choice of Weapons, or The Union Triloy. Choice of Weapons has The Man With The Red Tattoo, The Union Trilogy has High Time To Kill (which, although good, I don't personally rate as a story). The novels in Choice of Weapons are largely standalone (though the Union Trilogy is referenced in the last one as it is Benson's final novel) whereas there's a masterplan stretching over The Union Trilogy.

High Time to Kill by a long shot. It's a great mountaintop thriller. I also liked Never Dream of Dying and The Man with the Red Tattoo. Doubleshot to me was a good idea that was not developed too well.

You can't unless your name is Raymond Benson or zencat. Coco has never read it; he just dreams about it.
