After back to back Daniel Craig films in a black tux and eight straight films with no white/cream tux, who wants to see the ol' dinner jacket make it's triumphant return? I think Daniel would look excellent in one and I think it could be really trend setting, especially with Tom Ford designing.

Something contemporary but classic would be the perfect little nod for the 50th anniversary film.

ignore the model's douchiness, and I think something cut similar to this would work really well:

Brandon Flowers modelling the white dinner jacket there...

As for its use in a Bond movie, I'm not convinced. I know what my reaction is if I see a youngish man wearing a white dinner jacket these days, and it's not particularly complimentary. I'd rather they keep it classic.

Yea, it wouldn't suit Craig. Connery could pull it off alright, but it still looks more like he should be on stage than a spy in a casino. Particularly as Daniel Craig is blond, it wouldn't look too stylish.

That would explain the douchiness then...

Not sure on this one, I think with the blond hair, Craig is better off sticking to darker suits.

Though if this doesn't sell you on white dinner jackets i don't know what will ;)

Only if he goes to the tropics; they're not to be worn anywhere else. China might just about do it, but not keen otherwise.

Quite. Unless he's undercover as a waiter.

Is there some sartorial rule to say that white jackets are acceptable in the daytime?

I always understood it to be open air event garb, afternoon to evening, tropics or on a cruise. Or a waiter. Perhaps he gets invited to a garden party.

Aww, doesn't Justin look cute?

Just like a little man
...or a delinquent in juvenile court, hoping to look too young and innocent to prosecute.

Brandon Flowers, on the other hand, might look better if he wore his duds looser, a la Justin Baby.

As for the jacket,

Connery: Central America and Las Vegas;
Moore: Bangkok, India and an outdoor aftertoon reception in France.

If the location and/or occasion demands it, I say sure (who's going to look Craig's Bond in the eye and criticize?).

I'd also like to see DC in uniform - but again, only if the occasion demands.

I think the white dinner jacket is now utterly unfashionable. It was very smart up until the 50's (extended to the Connery era, as far as Bond is concerned), then gradually less so as time moved on. Moore's white in AVTAK was really far-fetched, and I guess the last remnant of a now bygone age.
I trust it wouldn't suit (no pun intended?) Craig one bit.

Nah. A tan suit sure, but not a white one. Not exactly fashionable.

It's something I'm saddened to have to accept, but the dinner jacket is, for now, passe. Until one fashion designer brings it back, and then out of left field it will totally be chic again. If it can happen with tapered jeans (which are presumably made on Satan's sewing machine), the dinner jacket deserves a comeback.

Probably not this time, though.

The picture above proves that it would be a bad idea. No contrast and bit washed out because of DC lighter hair color.

I wouldn't mind. I can't think of anything more James Bondish than a white dinner jacket. Bring back the royal navy uniform as well.

Actually, no. We're talking white "dinner" jacket, i.e white tux', not white jacket.

So, with the release of the SPECTRE full trailer today, how do we feel about Bond bringing back the White Dinner jacket?

Pleasantly satisifed?

Still against it?

Do we think it will be trendsetting? Or just a pleasant reference.

It's back!!

I knew this thread would reappear.

Sucks to anyone who said Craig wouldn't look good.

(I wore my white DJ to an evening of the Philharmonic playing 007 themes. I was the only one there dressed that way who wasn't in the orchestra. At least no one asked me to take their drink orders.)

Frankly, I'm still not entirely sold on the thing...
No, I guess it's fine. May sound strange but it reminds me of the fantastic Temple of Doom opening in the Obi Wan club.

I know, it just didn't work that way with me. Probably the whole Obi Wan setup, cabaret act, revolving table, tit-for-tat, poison-antidote, helter-skelter that follows made me forget about Goldfinger.

Needless to say, I'm so excited to see it back.

I actually wore one myself not too long after that 2011 poster. I did get a few waiter jokes, but also a ton of compliments, even from those that didn't see the Bond connection.

I'll be curious to see the reaction to it as a fashion statement. Especially for those who don't connect I back to Connery as an homage.

Hope we get some publicity stills in it like for the blue one in Skyfall.

I also got the Humphrey Bogart "Casablanca" vibe in TOD.

It has been 30 years since we last saw Bond in a white dinner jacket.

I'm happy to see the white jacket back. It feels extra special considering how long it's been too. It also means Craig joins my other two favourite Bonds, Connery and Moore, in wearing one.
