Hey guys. I've decided that I am going to avoid all Skyfall news post press conference besides any trailers. I usually love following news and developments but I feel like I am potentially haring my filming experience. So in an ambitious effort, starting now, I will avoid all topics on filming news, interviews, etc. I was wondering if anyone wanted to take this trip with me?

I'll probably do that, and stop posting here very soon. Not that I have posted in a while. I remember when DAD came out and I read far too much on these forums and then felt I knew everything before I went in the movie. That spoiled things for me. Of course, I didn't know much about QOS when I went in, and that still wasn't very enjoyable an experience, but CR was better and I didn't know much either.

Very sensible, Chief! I support. I'm usually all against spoilers, filming reports, studio shots, etc. I want to feel the magic of discovering what the end product will be like in theatre.
I remember reading (here) about the Opera scene being filmed for QoS; and when I eventually saw the movie, there was no surprise, since I pretty much knew what to expect (the scene with the "eye", etc.).
I can understand people who love following day-to-day reports, but I clearly am not one of those.
I guess it will be hard (from time to time I'll feel the urge to check out on the progess reports!), but I think it's for the best.
We may be just a few feeling the same way, but then, what an experience finding out what the movie is be like when it's released!

For instance, if Fiennes is playing Blofeld it'll be leaked at some point prior to release and splashed all over the tabloids, at which point it'll doubtless be picked up by sites like BBC News, so I presume that one would have to avoid all news outlets until this time next year, which is hardly practical.

I realize it may be impossible to avoid everything but compared to how bad I spoiled QoS, anything is better.

Count me in. All I needed was confirmation of the cast and a brief synopsis of the story. I am also becoming quite ambivalent about trailers. They tend to run for 2:30 nowadays and can give away far too much however skillfully edited.

It should be possible to post on here without finding out any spoilers, since we, as with the past movies, have a Spoiler section. This means that we can debate things here without knowing if we're right or not, even though our thoughts may be confirmed in a thread in the spoiler section.

I like to avoid spoilers and plot details but I do like to see the teaser trailers and the main trailer, and I don't mind hearing about location shoots. However, I avoid any production documentaries or details of car chases because I believe it's best to see that on the big screen when the film opens.

As much as I want to avoid overexposure on a daily basis, I will be tempted to "peak" occasionally, too.

I miss the pre-internet days, when the occasional snippet of info was gold.

Count me in, please. I was very upset when one of the journalists at the QUANTUM OF SOLACE press conference in Chile spoiled the ending. It was almost as if there was a gentlemen's agreement between those present not to give anything away - but then someone from AOL spoiled the party. So I'm trying to stay as spoiler-free as I can.

Same. I mean, I think I'll be good when it comes to concrete story spoilers, but photos and the like I'll be helpless.

I'm planning on trying to go spoiler-free this time around (although that's mainly due to a severe lack of interest in SkyFall than anything else), but one thing that is for certain is that the spoiler section, while it does keep a lot of the spoilers out of the main forum, there's always a poster or two during the process that ignore that and decide to drop major spoilers in the main, spoiler-free forum.

Hopefully that doesn't happen this time around, as I remember in the past finding out things I really didn't want to know about the film through the main forum (and especially in threads that had nothing to do with the spoiler in question), but once things really get moving on SkyFall, I'll probably find myself not visiting the forum too terribly much other than for some time spent in the fanfiction section.

You might as well just read all about it on here then and not watch the film. That's what it's tantamount to doing.

I remember the time when you could actually see what the topics were in the spoiler section from the non spoiler section. You could see things like "[Spoilers] The rare resource is water". Good thing that it's all invisible now.

A narrative is more than the sum of its plot points. If it were not, no one would watch a movie twice. And no one would watch a movie whose story is common knowledge.

That's true. It's the same as reading a novelization of a movie. You're getting the story and visual descriptions of what is happening. But that is not the same as actually watching the movie play out.

Having a fun experience, with the screening being the culmination and not the beginning and end, all within 2 and a half hours. It's usually the 1% of spoilers that can truly ruin things. I respect those that don't want to know. That's their choice.

Very true. I get the whole experience thing but it's been so long that I've gone to a movie fresh at all and I mean any movie. I'd love to go through SkyFall with nothing but shock and bewilderment.

I managed to strike the right balance with QoS - I satisfied the craving for news without learning any really ruinous spoilers and I plan to do the same again this time. For CR I knew far too much before seeing the film and, while it didn't ruin the experience for me, I much preferred seeing QoS (even if I didn't prefer the film) with a degree of blindness.

Casino Royale was tough not to know about beforehand with the book and so on, QOS I can't remember if i'd read spoilers or not beforehand but I still liked it a lot- This one, I dont really want to know too much, if i see some pictures and stuff that's ok but I won't read any leaked scripts and that kind of thing that give away the whole story

As we get more information about the film, threads can go there if they start giving away details. Say, for example, that Ralph Fiennes is Blofeld - do we necessarily want to know that? For the sake of the people who do not want to know, the spoiler subforum has been created.

So I assumed but how does it work - does it mask out the posts within it so the headlines don't appear on the forum pages (today's posts and otherwise)?

I think it's mostly down to the person creating the thread. Not the greatest system in the world, but I don't think anyone here would knowingly give details away like that.

Perhaps no-one at the moment but, whilst I expect it's noce for the owners of the site to get new members and it's likely the site will, some of them could be real frickin' idiots.

It's happened before, and I'd feel reasonably safe in assuming it'll happen again this time as well. It wasn't as big of an issue with Casino Royale since pretty much everyone already knew the ending as well as the main plot points of the novel, but I remember there being a big spoiler dropped in the regular, non-spoiler forum back during the run-up to Quantum of Solace. I think it had something to do with the article that basically blew the entire ending of the film, but I'm not 100% sure if that was it or not, but there was a major plot point dropped by someone in the non-spoiler forum.

The only way to really avoid spoilers is to simply not visit either the non-spoiler or the spoiler SkyFall forums until after the film is release.
