From DigitalSpy:

"The movie doesn't connect with the previous two films Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace. It's its own story." and "Daniel Craig says this will be Bond with a capital 'B'. "It's all in the script and we've got a great script."

Yeah, that is exactly what one would say to keep the Faberge eggs in the basket.

With four years between movies, it's probably for the best that SKYFALL stands alone from Craig's previous outings. I'm sure elements of his character development will trickle down from CASINO ROYALE and QUANTUM OF SOLACE, but something different seems a refreshing prospect at this moment in time.

Yeah this is pretty interesting, I was confident we'd be hearing more from Quantum, but at least now they have it to explore more down the road if they so choose (which I assume they will).

Ironically enough, the synopses about M's past coming back to haunt her and Bond going out to sort it all out for her, reminds me a little bit of FYEO, the short story (although, yes, there's a stench of TWINE - I prefer the scent of FYEO).

Craig's Goldfinger? Fine by me.

Sounds more to me like Craig's The Spy Who Loved Me, coming as it does following a gap after a disappointing second film (for the general public, not for me personally; it would appear I'm in the same position now as Loomis is over The Man with the Golden Gun), but I'm sure SkyFall'll be a damn good movie -- it's got all the right talent behind it. :)

Shame, I think they could have made a great spy thriller, whether epic or low-key in scale, focusing on Quantum, with none of the personal issues Bond was dealing with in the last two movies. By the time Bond 24 rolls around, it will have been 6+ years since Quantum of Solace, and I'm afraid they won't even bother by that point. It's not even a given that Craig will return for that one.

But if it's another Bond classic, I will enjoy it just the same. About time Bond is back!

Other then the unexpected four year gap Skyfall is similar to Goldfinger in one aspect. After two films dealing with SPECTRE, Dr. No and From Russia with Love, the next film in the series is unconnected to them. Who knows maybe Bond 24 will return to Quantum as Thunderball returned to SPECTRE.

It good that it a stand alone plot. I wonder will there be the gunbarrel at the begining before the precredit. What about the good famous Bond lines like Bond...James Bond and so on being in the movie. I wonder will there be a Q in the movie. So what did they say on the news conference, for those of you who where able to watch it.

The plot sounds good, about stuff resuffacing from M's past to haunt her. I would agree with some people on other post that M is not a double agent. This could be Judi Dench last outing at M, IF it is I hope the next M will be the Bernard Lee, Robert Brown type. The title SkyFall sounds like a Jame Bond comic book title from the 90s by Eclips.

I'm glad about this...I've wanted a break from the Quantum organization storyline for a while.. if they decide to return in say Bond 25 or Bond 26..that would be fine with me..

Good choice, they can pick up the Quantum-storyline any time (though I'm not sure they will).

There was a bit of M's background in NEVER DREAM OF DYING. I wonder what this will entail?

would kind of like quantum to return or maybe even have bond taking care of them in the pretitle sequence, similar to how batman arrested scarecrow at the beginning of the dark knight taking care of that loose end from batman begins.

I am glad this is not connected with Quantum. It just didn't have the emotional/global threat SPECTRE did over the Connery films and 'Quantum of Solace' seemed to run out of steam for a decent story with Quantum in in.

Craig and co. deserve a fresh start with anyone/anything now being central to the story and villains. I'm looking forward to seeing what we get, and what Bardem will bring to the role...and just what or who is behind this "...MI6 under attack..." synopsis?

It's interesting that this time, nobody at the press conference asked about the lines like "Bond, James Bond" or the gunbarrel. Although they did ask about the gadgets.

I would have preferred them to stick with Quantum and some of the characters introduced in QOS, like Corinne the Canadian agent, but hey, if the movie's great, I'll accept anything.

Corinne served her purpose. There's no need to bring her back. And Stana Katic is fully-booked with "Castle" commitments.

Not that the script can't be great but every new movie they say they have a great script. Brosnan was promoting Tomorrow Never Dies and saying how great it was but that script was changing each day. At least the Bond girls didn't say they were Bond equals this time.

That's a very good point. Of course, in these times we are in, the women ARE Bond's equals which means that it's a moot point anyway.

After QOS one can think that the Quantum mission is on a low pitch, a dead end at this time. Other missions pop up in the meantime, now with Skyfall.

Well, that's if they keep Craig's era chronically.

This is great news, QOS should only work as act 4 of CR. Which it probably always was.

Having seen the last season of SPOOKS I am very curious how SKYFALL will handle the "Old Cold War secret comes back to haunt M"-plot - since SPOOKS did that plot pretty well already...

Thunderball didn't connect with Dr No or From Russia With Love. Nevertheless, SPECTRE was still in it. It could be the Bond/Vesper story arc we are referring to here, rather than the involvement or otherwise of Quantum.

The story arc of Bond/Vesper I think is done, but the re-introducing of main characters/Bond is not.
Casino Royale re-introduced Felix Leiter
Quantum of Solace re-introduced Bill Tanner and featured Felix Leiter
Skyfall is re-introducing Q and featuring Bill Tanner and perhaps even more
and if Craig is back for Bond 24 they'll re-introduce Moneypenny it would be to many introductions for Skyfall if Moneypenny was involved.

as for the Quantum I agree that they are just copycatting Connery's first films and that they may return to it in Bond 24 or maybe just a pre-title sequence.

It'd be a good idea to explore new bad guys. And if the rumors are true (that the treachery afoot is due to M's past), then the QUANTUM organization couldn't be involved because she'd never HEARD of them in CR.

I'd gotten the sense that QUANTUM was to be the new S.P.E.C.T.R.E. (since McClory holds the rights to the latter). It might be interesting if If OO7 (Craig or whomever) went against that sinister organization again; like Connery did in TB. I thought Mr. White was a cool villian; though on the surface, he seems as passive as a pharmacist, he's really as treacherous as Blofeld could ever be.

I've always been into that quote from Craig..."Bond with a captial B."

It'd be nice to have the Bond imagery and motiffs we know and love again, but I guess it's also what Mendes see's as being fundamental 'Capital B' themes. Exciting stuff though!

That's not an issue any more, as once Sony acquired MGM, then bought the Casino Royale property from Cloumbia, then McClory's rights, MGM/EON now controls all film rights to the James Bond franchise. They could make Blofeld/SPECTRE movies if they wanted to, and may do someday.

After Skyfall, I would like to see Bond finish off Quantum before discovering a new special executive to oppose.
