In a german magazine, TV MOVIE, Craig reportedly said that he will leave the role after BOND 23 to a younger actor due to the physical demands of filming the action sequences.

Is he joking? Or starting to play the Sir Roger game ?

Sorry, I was so shocked that I did not check the thread´s spelling. Of course it must be "his" last Bond film.

I sure hope not!
He'd be like Dalton, a great Bond who only did two films! That's the last thing we want as Bond fans

I'm pretty sure he said he'd be up for one more after this and then he'd see how he felt. Unless this film tanks I highly doubt it'll be his last.

If they'd shorten the time between films to something less than a century we might have gotten five or six films out of him.

I'd prefer him to stay on in the role, but at least if he leaves the role then CBn will get to play that guessing game again about who will replace him. That's all that was on this site it seemed like for two years before Craig was announced.

A whole lot of people had Clive Owen picked for the role and when Owen said in an interview he would be quite busy in the coming months, some CBNers claimed that this ambiguous quote confirmed that he would replace Brosnan as 007.

Since the source is TV Movie, a German TV Mag, I highly doubt it. As far as I know, he didn't give an interview to them, when in Germany for C&A and its rather unlikely, that they would be the first to know. Of course, everybody will pick it up, but again - this doesn't seem reliable at all.

It also says, he mentioned, he is prepping for 23 for a year now, which is total bs...

I kinda had a sneaking suspicion that this one would be his last, although I would love to be proved wrong. He's the best thing that's happened to Bond since GoldenEye.

Fake. The original article also claims that Craig said that he has been training for the movie for a year, which is simply not true. Craig was still filming The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo back in May, where he played a role that demanded he doesn't train at all.

Do not believe a word of this aricle.

Also he always claimes, he likes the physical aspect of roles like Bond and C&A - its true, he doesn't like hitting the gym, but that's it...it also true, that he will always just take them one by one...

While I do hope that this means nothing I consider it possible that Craig was in training for some time now, maybe even a year ago (since the MGM situation could clear up any day at that point - and also one has to keep in shape so that more extensive training is not as hard when you start that phase again).

Also, Craig is nearing his Mid-40´s. Although BOND 24 is supposedly to hit theatres in 2014, it is possible that that was only a studiohead´s wish. EON might push back the start of the next film, finding it more convenient to have three years between movies, avoiding the hectic scheduling which was one of the demands between CR and QOS. In 2015 Craig´s tenure would have lasted almost a decade. Longer than Connery´s, shorter than Moore´s - but still... he´s not getting younger. And I cannot imagine him pressing EON for more money by saying that he wants to leave after Bond 23.

Standard Bond Contract is 3 films with an option for a 4th. So he'll have to consider after this one and no doubt they will offer plenty of cash.

All seems a bit odd, doesn't it? Why would Craig talk about such matters now, before even the first scene of 23 is shot? And why to the German press? Instead of a British or American tabloid. If he wanted to put the pressure on the producers that is.

The one year training effort doesn't say a lot, could well be he was already getting into the drill prior to the MGM inconvenience, we're one year behind the regular schedule after all. What I doubt is he really would kick up such a stink without good reason. Such talk is surely not encouraged in EON's realm.

I still think, and hope, that Craig will do 4, at least. 46 when, and if Bond 24 is released(in 2014 fingers crossed) is hardly old, as long as he is in shape.

Me too - I mean, Moore was 46 when his first Bond opened! I sincerely hope that Craig would do Bond 24 and perhaps even Bond 25 and then pass the shoulder holster to the next guy.

Craig to me isn't firmly saying that this will be his last film. He's got that casual attitude which, the way I read into it, says if Bond 23 tanks, the producers may decide they want to fire me or I'll just say that's it for me. Based on how excited Daniel is about the script for Bond 23, I firmly believe he'll stick around for at least one more film.. It also helps that Sony has already greenlit Bond 24.

I'm going to be pissed if Craig only does three films. He better do at minimum five. They booted a popular and much younger looking (than Roger Moore at that age) than his age Bond in Brosnan for a more realistic, gritty, and younger approach to (accept the facts) compete w/ the well-received realistic and gritty action films..like Bourne.

It started off great with Casino Royale, but let's face it...Quantum of Solace went nowhere & while it was a good action movie, it wasn't Bond in my opinion...and now after three films we have to go through another transition to a new actor (and let's face it..new style)?

I certainly hope not. I think it's a mistranslation or was misunderstood. I firmly believe Craig will do at least 1 or 2 more after Bond 23.

After watching the short clip, he is behaving in his usual laid back way, which is never confirm anything, that's not already written in stone. And he did have this attitude, that every day could be his last forever. He stopped after saying this, but the consequence would have been to say, that he doesn't know at this point, whether or not he is doing another, which is diofferent to saying, its my last...so, it all will come down to how successful 23 will be IMO.
But I do see it as the closest we can come to a confirmation, that Bardem is on board.

If Craig is just playing the hard-to-get-game here then I´m sure that he will do another Bond. But after BOND 24 I could imagine very well that he would quit, being 48 or 49 before BOND 25 would be released.

However, Craig has just learned with COWBOYS AND ALIENS that he himself is still not a box office draw. I don´t think DREAM HOUSE will be huge either. Maybe he will luck out with THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO - and do the other two films in that franchise. But still... giving up Bond is not easy on your career. Ask Connery, Moore, Brosnan, heck,, even Dalton. So I would conclude that Bond 24 is definitely on his plate. Unless EON ends their love affair with him after BOND 23.

In the end, it probably will depend on BOND 23´s box office, I´m afraid. If it is not outperforming QOS and CR, this could be the end of Craig´s tenure.

Its not his style to play games. tlso They have made plans to have 23 and 24 follow closely to each other meaning they are not planning on changing Bonds eithr

I don't think its necessary to OUTPERFORM 600 Mill, getting there should be enough. I think, everything over 500 Mill will be fine..

Quite, that's pretty much all it's gonna depend on.

#23 fulfills it's potential and is a huge box office hit and MGM/EON'll cross Dan'd palm with so much silver it'll make going to the gym worthwhile. Any desire to return to obscure, indie films will instantly evaporate with it.

#23 turns out to be an incomprehensible, pretentious mess to mainstream movie goers and a poor box office return as a consequence, and Dan'll be Three and Out.

Babs will have to tear her gaze away and start fawning over the fresh young face of James Bond #7, or 007th! But then, so will many CBNers. W

Which really makes it win-win, doesn't it?

Bond 23 will be a hit. I'm betting with the line-up of talent behind and in front of the camera it's going to be a terrific film, up there with CR or even better.

Eon, Sony and MGM will not want to let Craig go. And judging by Craig's huge enthusiasm for the new film's script, director etc. I think he'll feel very comfortable doing a
4th film if it has the same high calibre of writers, director, supporting cast etc. At 46 he'll still be young enough - Moore was 45 for LALD. Pierce was 49 for DAD.

After a 4th film, I suspect Craig will feel he'll be too old at 47/48 to do a 5th movie, especially if the physical demands remain as high as they are at present.

Unfortunately it all falls back to the current preoccupation with exclusively physical skills, what set Bond apart is a broad diversity of talents and cunning in the field he operates, an ability to overcome the odds in original and creative ways. If Bond is realigned with the generic actioner he loses what makes him unique, ironically its the limitations on what Bond can do himself, of his capabilities that draw the most imagintive and impressive results when he wins through. the gadgets became a cheap and lazy way to achieve this aspect but it would be a dreadful mistake to lose both the gadgets and the challenges they were invented to overcome.....get some decent writers give bond his skills back, Daniel can then play him for another ten years at least.

Well, I think most of us want to see a great film regardless of who's in it.

If #23 is a great film and a box office success, wonderful.

But if #23 doesn't do particularly well because EON, Craig and Mendes have taken it down a route not-popular with the mass box office (remember OHMSS? remember LTK? both noble efforts but largely disappointing at the box office), then replacement and repositioning is surely win-win?

As I said, we are James Bond fans here not Daniel Craig fans, surely?

Well I enjoyed Craig's performances in Layer Cake, Cowboys and Aliens, Road to Perdition, and Munich, so I'd say that I'm an overall fan of his in addition to being a Bond fan. I'd prefer that he hung around a bit longer primarily because I enjoy him personally as an actor.
