It looks in some shots of the back of his head in TSWLM that the colors don't quite match up. I dunno.

Moore in need of a hairpiece? Never occurred to me. Heavily dyed, especially after MR. But a toupee? Doubt it.

I know they had to thicken his hair a bit in AVTAK, but never a full hairpiece. The back of head shots could have been stuntmen. As Roger once said, he uses stuntmen to stand up and walk :D (I think his exact quote was "sometimes I actually stand up")

As far as I know, he never had a hairpiece.

On the plus side, Tanya Robert's acting was all her.

Yes, she needed a stunt double just to handle the dialogue.

Very droll.

I laughed.

As for Moore with a 'piece. Nope.

In interview he says he doesn't even dye it. And, to be frank, I can believe it. There is a chap at my squash club who is fully 138, replete with full head of hair and only the smidgin of grey at the lower extremities of his 'burns.

As someone less cranially piliferous as him, I tend to notice these things.

It's clearly not Roger Moore in the Parisian car chase, the fight sequence in Stacy's house, or on the Golden Gate Bridge. Conversely, it's very hard to tell that it's not Daniel Craig in the free-running and crane sequences. And even in those sequences in Casino Royale where we know it's not Craig, it's still such a good double that you have to squint really hard to be able to tell the difference.

AVTAK is the only Bond film where it's blatantly obvious a stuntman is in the actors place..in my opinion.

Hard to believe. His hair was multiple shades during his tenure and while I can semi-believe he didn't use a piece from LALD through MR, his hair started getting bigger/fuller in every film from FYEO on.

Like he said, he does his own lying. And possibly his own dyeing.

There's no question that Craig is more convincing as an action hero than Moore ever was - physicality was never Moore's strong suit. But to be fair, digital technology has made it fairly straightforward to graft an actor's head onto a stuntman's body, something that simply wasn't possible in 1985.

Didn't Mike Reid claim that he got sacked as a stuntman from The Saint for laughing at Moore's thinning hair? Doesn't mean it's true of course but I'd say the actor was definitely rugged-up in his last two Bond outings which would indicate he was wearing a partial hairpiece prior to this.

I didn't have the source handy, but I recall reading this some time ago (perhaps in Cult TV?).

Is there any evidence that Moore had a hairpiece. I don't think Moore did. Along with Lazenby, he pretty much had a full head, thinning now at like 80 odd years old but not at all convinced he needed a rug, in the same way Connery and Brosnan have admitted to. The press surely would have pounced on this and we would have seen a picture in "The Sun" or some such reliable publication ;) with a an appropriate headline.

I wonder if Cubby missed the good ol' days when he could dub an actress.

LOL! Well, you'd expect Mie Hama to be dubbed, because English wasn't her first language. But when an actress can't act in her own, native language, it may be time to retire.

Or, they could have simply hired a competetent, credible actress. The role was not that difficult. There was nothing in the script that called for her to be this weak, clingy, 125lb-sack-of-[censored] that keeps weighing Bond down. Robert's reaction to the news that Zorin is pumping seawater into the wells is some of the worst acting in the series. Conversely, just two years later, Maryam D'abo does an excellent job of portraying a civilian who is caught up in an adventure and danger far bigger than herself. Stacy Sutton wasn't written to be a Wai Lin or a Camille or a Holly Goodhead or a Jinx Johnson; all she had to do was not detract from the scene, and unfortunately, Mrs.Roberts was unable to do even that.

Like Blofled said in DAF "if only those cheeks were brains," or something like that.

Tanya Roberts as a geologist is almost as believable as Denise Richards as a nuclear phycicist.

Not sure the word 'believable' should ever be Really attributed to the Bond films.

Do you?

While an easy observation to make, it really is a bit pointless.

I really think the word believable can be used to describe the majority of FRWL, FYEO, CR and, to a lesser extent, a few of the other Bond films... otherwise, not so much.

I never really thought that Moore had a piece, but his hairstyle did look a little off a few times... and I DEFINITELY never heard anything about Brosnan admitting to wearing extra hair. We all know that Connery did throughout his whole tenure as Bond (especially obvious at times from Thunderball on) but he was at least comfortable enough to go without it for most of his films in the 70's onward.

Not to derail this thread (too much), but I disagree. As an exercise (and going by what I remember from each film), compare the scene in AVTAK in which Bond and Stacey discover what Zorin is going to do in the mine with the bit of exposition by Christmas in the submarine scene from TWINE. In the former, you can actually see the gears turning inside Stacey's head as she explains the consequences of flooding the fault, whereas in the latter the delivery is totally, and I mean totally, flat. Without being a master thespian, Roberts has much more personality than Richards, and is therefore more believable as an expert in her field.

I found this:

Roger does look slightly older with darker hair, doesn't he?

You make a good point. In all fairness, this is the first forum I've ever posted on (given my age, I know that's depressing) and forget that some things I say don't come across the way I would like in writing (I should have added one of those smiley-wink symbols). For that, I do apologize.

In any event, I didn't intend to derail the topic, and going back to it:
I always thought Roger didn't use a full toupee. During the underwater scenes in For Your Eyes Only (1981), he's obviously got a decent head of hair (thinning, perhaps, but certainly better than Connery's in his underwater scenes in Never Say Never Again.) Roger's hair also looked good in the underwater scenes of Ffolkes (aka North Sea Hijack) (1980, I think). His hair did look thicker in Octopussy and A View to a Kill, suggesting he may have had a little help, but I don't think a full toupee.
Anyway, sorry to have been a trouble.

In an interview for TND he joked about putting a toupee on when he's still playing Bond as an old man, but I don't think he ever wore one during his Bond reign.

By the way - what´s this obsession with hair, no hair, hairpieces?

Rest assured, kids - when it goes you will miss it.  And if you´re an actor you will want to avoid this bullying and start to look for alternatives.

Especially if you're an actor, and can't get your hair to match the way it looked in your head shots when you were 24.
