Happy Birthday Timothy Dalton!

Can you believe Bond #4 is 65? Time flies.

To me, he'll always be that fresh face that came out of nowhere and brought Bond back to its Fleming roots.

I always say the same thing. Dalton brought back the character to the original envision of Fleming and also brought a more serious undertone and realism back to the franchise.

Sixty-five? Really? Hmmmm, he's a pretty good looking man for 65.

He may not have been the best Bond (IMO) but he's definitely tops in the (non-)ageing stakes!

Happy birthday Timbo

Happy B-Day Tim!
There are those who say he is actually 67. Are they wrong?

He was at the National Youth Theatre with Helen Mirren and David Suchet. They were born in 1945 and 1946. So, 1946 is most likely the correct date.

Can we get the age thing straightened out? Surely someone knows for sure. His birthdate is continually given as both 1944 and 1946. He's quoted himself saying that he was 24 or 25 when he auditioned for OHMSS in 1968 (making it 1944 and him 67). Is there an official DOB listed anywhere?

Oh, and happy b'day Tim, whatever your age might be.

I've never been able to find an official birth record for him.

007 Magazine number 16 lists Dalton as 40 years old back in August '86, whereas IMDB differs giving his year of birth earlier as 1944.

Then there's Dalton talking about being 24 or 25 when they were doing the auditions for On Her Majesty's Secret Service. Which would fit in better with the 1944 date.

As far as birth records go, the closest I ever got was a Peter Dalton registered in Derbyshire in 1946. That could well be him. But it's difficult to know for certain.

During The Living Daylights press conference in Vienna (October 1986), when asked his age, Dalton replies that he is 40.

While that isn't definitive proof, it is straight from him, and not some magazine article or press release that could have transposed a number or made a simple math error.

However old he is, he no longer has the excuse of being too young to play Bond.

Certainly from what I remember about the TLD/Dalton publicity in 86-87, he was around 40 at that time.

Yeah, it always used to be 1946 until IMDb decided otherwise.

Happy Birthday. Hopefully Tim has as great a year as 2010 was, which must be his best year(filmwise) since 89.

no, I remember reading one article back in 86 when he was announced that said he was 38 and another article that said he was 40. Perhaps Dalton himself really isn't sure how old he is :S

Wikipedia states: 21 March 1946.

Of courser, like IMDB, it's subject to editing.

Wikipedia is usually more accurate than IMDb, when it comes to actor bios... and Dalton wasn't approached for OHMSS; judging by the dates he gives, he was most likely approached in the run-up to bringing back Connery for DAF, along with Michael Gambon and (most notoriously) John Gavin.

Oh, and happy belated, Timothy. :)

He was approached for OHMSS. But he was probably only asked to audition for it, rather than being offered the role, as is sometimes said.

I suspect Dalton only became a serious prospect for Bond after he appeared in Cromwell (which was directed by Broccoli's chum Ken Hughes).

I don't care if Dalton seemed too young at the time. He would have made an excellent Bond back in 1969 as well as in 1987.
