Thanks!
That was pretty great, looks fantastic for a Wii title. I hope the controls are an improvement. It sounded like DC as well.

Graphics don't look that great, but it's the GE update I've been waiting for some time. This will do the trick. Since I have barely touched a Wii before I'm going to have to start from the ground up with this one. B)

Any word on new levels? Sure, I love Aztec and Egyptian, but I'd love to see more experimental levels like those. I hate to be picky, but this game will have a short life (for me, at least) if it does not add a lot to the original. I've been through GE64's levels so many times that even with new and improved graphics it'll seem very ordinary without new features!

I'm happy cause Daniel Craig's Bond in a sense does return in November.

However I'm nervous about the story line how much of the film will be included?

will it be updated?

from the trailer I only saw Dam and Facility and St Petersburg streets and a bit of i guess Runway so Will it just be a rehash of the same levels?

The trailer seems alright.

Because it's a Wii exclusive, I won't be getting it. And even though I know it's updated, I can't recognise much of the original in there.

Bring on Bloodstone I say.

Yeah, I get some vibes from those levels, but it doesn't really scream GoldenEye 007 to me like the original did. Might be because of the different game mechanics, eg. the takedowns and rain in the Dam level, etc.

Anyway, GoldenEye 007 came out in 1997 and was made by Rare. I've always got that.

what is it with craig's bond and rain? casino royale and quantum of solace are the only two bond films that have rain and now he is going to be in a goldeneye video game and it will have rain as well.

Here is the trailer, it begins at 38 seconds. This is not fake to some that believe it is. Link:

It feels a bit odd having Craig in GoldenEye.

And I bet Brosnan is thrilled.

Obviously it won't be as good as the original, but I'm excited if only for Daniel Craig's involvement alone.

BTW, from the logo on the trailer, looks like this box art is legit. At least the logo is.

I'd be surprised if they don't put Craig's face on it.

I like the way the logo is reminiscent of the original GE logo (not the final version) from the press launch at Pinewood in '95: only then the stripe was on top of the logotype rather than below! B)

Of course it won't be the same as Rare's GoldenEye, but damn, if this isn't exciting! Confirmation of a GoldenEye remake has me dead excited to dust off my Wii come November!

There are some juicy moments in the trailer, and the prospect of playing online is very tasty. There's lots of work left for the games graphics, but that establishing shot of the Dam level sent a shiver down my spine.

My only concern is that the trailer makes the remake seem a lot more action-packed than the original version. What made Rare's GoldenEye such a brilliant shooter experience is that it required stealth to complete your mission objectives. It seems Activision have done their research with this, so I hope they know that the key to improving upon GoldenEye is not balls-to-the-wall action.

Remaking GoldenEye is maybe the boldest move Activision could make. If it's a success, well done to Activision for pulling off the near-impossible. And if it's a failure, it'll likely be the nail in the coffin for developers trying to emulate Rare's classic. Everything or nothing, Activision!

I would’ve liked a noticeable graphical upgrade for any GoldenEye remake at least.

I know it's about gameplay, but in 1997 Rare did the best they could with what they had at the time. In 2010 I'd expect them to really blow the original out of the water graphically.

You’re simply not going to get that on the Wii. No matter what. And with the rights issue, Wii is the only choice. Damn Nintendo for opting for these primal graphics.

No word on that. Hopefully we see something soon.

The graphics are pretty flat, but they are certainly a big step up from the N64 game, at least from a technical stand point. Also remember that the original chugged along at a poor frame rate.

It is important that this seems to be a new video game adaptation of GoldenEye the film, not a remake of GoldenEye 64. While it is pretty obvious Activision are trying to cash in on people's nostalgia, I do have some confidence in Eurocom, the rumoured developers. They made The World is Not Enough (N64), which was certainly a very solid Bond game.

edit: and of course Nightfire, another fine Eurocom game.

There doesn't seem to have been any mention of it at the Activision preview event. I'm guessing that since they've already announced Goldeneye for this fall, they don't want two competing Bond games out at the same time, so Bloodstone got the boot to next year.

Well I guess the lines are blurred a bit, which isn't really a bad thing. I also relish that this is the closest thing we'll get to seeing a Dalton lead GoldenEye.

Much as these words are going to cause me to cough up blood, I'm actually impressed.

Okay, so my first instinct was that it didn't remind me of GoldenEye at all as much as COD wannabe #580000000000, and the descision to modernise the weapons (hello P99) only compounded that. But looking closer...

...That was because it had the same gritty realism that characterises the Craig films, rather than the camp OTT-ness the Pre-Craig series was always wrestling with and game developers always went for like flies on EON. Activision proved with QOS that they could at least get the Bond "feel" right, something EA never managed, and that is present here.

Also- its first person! Seemingly all the way! None of the immersion-shattering switches the 3rd every ten seconds like QOS, but you stay as Bond for all the melee attacks and climbing into the Russian toilet and everything. This is exactly what Bond games have needed since the N64 days, and I feel vindicated for every angry post I've ever made about how TND, EON and FRWL were big bags of owl pellets and sick for being 3rd person.

So overall, I'm happy the Bond license is in good hands. I'm interested to see how the rest of the cast look (Liking the thuggish, cockney sounding Trevelyan). And the new settings look like this is as much new writing as it is based on the film, which is a note of caution, I'm sure we all rememer the insane cartoon sillyballs of AUF, EON and FRWL (again. And THAT was based on a serious film).

But! On Wii? At least in making the game classic controller friendly they're admitting you just can't make real games for the Wii, so as an advanced Gamecube game it might work. Also, a reimagining, modernisation, new casting and advanced gameplay... what of GoldenEye is left exactly? It looks like we're down to some similarly themed levels and the basic story, and that's why GoldenEye is such a classic... the story, right?

So, looking positive. But doesn't planning a Bond game starring Daniel Craig for release at the end of the year seem like hedging your bets a bit, given the current state of the film series?

As for me, I'm a bit dissapointed. I mean, I love the idea of modern GoldenEye (Daniel Craig in Pierce Brosnan's movie!) etc, but on Wii?! Good for me that my sister has one. I'm surely gonna buy this game. But what about my PS3? Or at least PS2.

And the question remains - what about BloodStone? Are they going to announce it or what? I want a proper new Bond game, with new plot, new enemies and great graphics on my console. THIS YEAR!

Well, I'm bummed. I really wanted an original game and was excited by the Bloodstone title. Seems crazy that we've waited all these years and all we've seen from Activsion is a tie-in game and a now a remake. But the new GoldenEye looks cool, and it's wild to have Craig in it. Would have been like having Pierce in the FRWL game. Color me...indifferent.

I can only think of two reasons the Wii-make is exclusive to the Wii.

1. GoldenEye IS the defining game for Nintendo. Along with maybe Mario Kart or Smash Bros, GE was Nintendo's killer app. And they must really want to keep it that way.

2. You can add the whole "Play the N64 Classic in HD!" in the marketing spiel. They're hammering home this is the game you used to love back in the day. Wouldn't even get a second mention if it was Multi-Platform.

Either way once again James Bond Will Return in November!

Edit: Also I'm aware that the Wii can't do HD graphics. That won't stop them saying it is though!

Wasn't it reported a while back that the mysterious Bloodstone had been pulled by Activision and the staff put to work on COD: BO? If it's not cancelled, I think it's at least "indefintely delayed", which is fast getting to be James Bonds new catchphrase.

Although, wasn't it also said that it would be some kind of driving spin-off? Who would want that? Good riddance, I say.

Well, I'm getting pretty tired of the attempts to rehash on Goldeneye. It was a great game, but enough already. Hopefully, this remake will finally put the "kabosh" on further remakes, no matter how it turns out. Here's fingers-crossed for a decent game.

Agreed. A brand new game - not a remake, is probably now on the back burner in favour of putting another coat of paint on an old war horse. Exclusive to Wii owners. Nothing new for next generation console owners. Ugh.

I would really like a new game. They don't even have to use Craig or any of the other movie actors. Just create their own Bond and others.
