while I'm happy a new 007 game is coming i'm quite disappointed that Activision is not taking a cue from Rocksteady and Ubisoft and giving us an amazing bond game and instead is giving us James bond racing.

An expected let down. Certainly won't be picking this up, not big on racing games I'm afraid.

Personally, I like the racing idea. Considering all the Bond vehicles we've had, there is a lot of potential there. I'll wait and see what they offer before passing judgement.

Interesting news. Is it known at this time what platforms the game will be on besides Xbox?

I played the Quantum of Solace game a bit on the Wii, but wasn't real motivated to pick it up.

A racing game is an interesting and new idea for a Bond title for sure. Hopefully all of the films and vehicles from those films are included?

I'm sure the next title after this one will be for Bond 23? That is if MGM's matter of debt and ownership is ever resolved..

Something tells me we are not going to get any more Bond games with original stories. Just film tie-ins and games like this -- racing, shooting, etc. Maybe Eon spooked because Everything or Nothing was a better Pierce Brosnan Bond movie than they ever made. B) (The planned follow-up would have been just as good.)

There was a planned follow-up to "EoN"?

Yep. I don't recall all the details (which I knew at one time -- think I even knew the villains' name), but it was once again written by Bruce Feirstein and Dubai was going to be one of the locations. It was also going to feature some spectacular underwater action, as EA had developed some new technology re underwater graphics. But work on it was shelved and shifted to the From Russia With Love game. A real shame.

Damn. That sounds like it would've been fantastic. You don't recall the title, do you, zencat?

No, I don't. Not sure it ever had a title.

Check out this CBn article from 2005 which mentions the game's cancellation and reason why.

EA had planned an original 007 outing in the vein of Everything or Nothing for 2005, and hired Bond veteran Bruce Feirstein to write the storyline. However, when it became clear Pierce Brosnan would not be returning to the role of 007 and that an announcement of a successor was still some time away, it was decided to shelve the original and go with the remake concept.

It's not only racing like the 007 racing game, it will also have the usual story line. I hope this game is good!

Well, MGM Interactive was supposedly pretty upset with EA because EA wasn't doing tie-ins to the James Bond movies. There was no Die Another Day game and EA shelved Casino Royale which cost MGM an untold amount of licensing fees. EA told everyone they were shifting focus away from licensed games, but anyone can see that was a blatant lie as EA still has numerous franchises including Harry Potter, The Simpsons, The Lord of The Rings, The Godfather among others. Sales were continuously dwindling (read: the franchise was being devalued) and EA was having trouble cashing in (e.g., GoldenEye: Rogue Agent). So when it came time to choose the next Bond game, the choice was between Sean Connery and Pierce Brosnan (who at the time was on the way out) and they went with Sean Connery to try and stir sales and it didn't work. One story says MGM took the franchise away from EA (I don't know if they can do that), but since the Bond franchise (games) ain't what she used to be by this time mutually ending their relationship probably made a lot of sense. Activision had been chomping at the bits for it and their leap-frog strategy probably seemed great in MGM's eyes especially when at the time it looked like Bond was back to every 2 years. (leap-frog is essentially when they have 2 developers making games so that every other year that dev has a game ready - Call of Duty is the big example here. Why Bond didn't have a 2009 entry is probably due to Bond 23 being pushed back, but that's just speculation on my part)

This is one of those things we'll probably never know the truth about, but in 2003 they re-upped for 7 years and 2 maybe 3 years later it was over. There was also the rumor that EA was hesitant about Daniel Craig's success in the role and if that factored in, well.. boy were they wrong - but remember 2005.

I'm willing to see what the game turns out like before passing a final judgment on it, but this is disappointing news nonetheless considering, first of all, how horrid the last Bond racing game was as well as the fact that I'd much rather be getting a new game built around an original storyline like EVERYTHING OR NOTHING and FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE (which was an original storyline as far as I'm concerned, as it had so little to do with the actual film it was hard to see why they gave it that title)

It would be AWESOME if they put in the tank chase from Goldeneye as like a mission and you were in control of the tank, Both Chase from TND (bike and car chase). Boat chase in the world is not enough. Car chase from DAD between bond and Zao. Then i would be impressed!!!

Surely! I doubt Bond could use a laser watch and an "armor piercing" gun (WTF?!), Grant use a BIG Octopus robot armed with hi tech lasers... and a robotic human shield shooting range, with the Q Copter!!!
God, EA, this was in 1963 !!!!!

Check it out. Is the name of the game, Bloodstone?

If so, I like that name. It's Bondian. Also suggests maybe it'll have a bit of a story to it.
