By Royal Command U.S. cover art is (finally) here, and it's not by Kev Walker this time. It's a stunner!

What a great cover, very atmospheric. Reminds me of the Bond featured on the cover of the First Pan printing of From Russia With Love (which itself could be a candidate over in the 'Best cover EVER' thread).

You mean this one? (attached)

I really think this is a spectacular cover. Probably the best of the US covers (although I still love DOD). I think Richardson has captured a dynamic perspective and a sense of movement that you didn't really get with Walker. Love the light coming through the windows. Also great to have the Young Bond Girl on a cover finally.

That's the one Zen. Maybe it's the appearance of the girl that makes me think of the early Pan editions - think Moonraker, Live and Let Die and this From Russia With Love. Comparing to Walker's Bond, this BRC Bond has more traditional 'good looks' but the style of the cover captures the era of the story perfectly. I'd say it's the best YB cover I've seen in Zen's fantastic gallery.

Yeah, the girl does remind me of the early Pan covers -- which is not a bad thing!

So what do people think about Kev Walker not doing this last cover? He's been such a big part of the YB universe, it's quite a surprise. I don't have any inside info on why he didn't do it. Back in April '09 I was told (and reported on my site) that he was preparing sketches for BRC. Then in September I learned about Richardson. It could be Walker provided the basic design concept but was unable to commit to the full painting so they brought in Richardson?

Whatever the case, Richardson certainly delivered.

Terrific cover. Fun to spot the differences between Walker and Richardson's take on how Bond looks.

I agree. It's neck and neck between the two. Great job.

I like it, especially the background and the inclusion of the girl...

But DoD is still my favorite cover of the series.

Have you guys noticed the new treatment of the lettering below the YB logo numbering the book with a number now instead of a word? It's a small change, but I like it. They're also doing this on the HG paperback. Expecting they'll probably do this on future printings of all the other books.

You know, it's a little bitter sweet, this. This may be the last YB cover reveal for, well, who knows how long.

Agreed. Wonder if it is better meant to grab the attention of someone who is browsing in a bookstore... "Hey! This is a new series. I should pick up the other four books."

Really hope not. Want it back to being a guarentee of at least one new Bond book a year.

Just got confirmation that, yes, this is the plan.

So Amazon has posted the cover. But they screwed up and posted an earlier version (art is the same, but it had the old title treatment). Disney had it changed after I let them know, but you can still see the variant cover HERE.

Picked up my copy today.

Also chatted up the sales clerk who worked in the kids section of the Barnes and Noble about how wonderful Higson's work is, and how I'd highly recommend it to parents with young boys looking for a fun, mature adventure series that will improve their reading skills and hopefully spark an interest in Bond. Can't wait to crack it open. B)

I cannot believe that happened B)

Yeah they didn't have a copy of THE ENEMY which I was really looking forward to nabbing as well. Looks like I'll be taking a side trip to Borders one of these days.

What's the deal with the audiobook costing $100? That's crazy expensive.

I think it's because these audiobooks are really mostly sold institutionally...libraries, schools, and such. So they ask a premium. Like back in the early days of VHS. To buy one cost $100 because the business was really about selling rental copies to stores, not individuals.

That's interesting. Makes sense given the target audience for the books. Thanks, zen.

My pleasure. They've released unabridged versions in the UK at this price as well. The abridged versions read by Charlie are the ones more aimed at the individual consumer.
