I think Phillip Mastes as a Memeber of Quantum would be cool and a nice nod to the short story.

I edited my post to show the correct spelling of Felix Leiter I apologize to all Leiter fans.
Gala Brand I think would be prefect for Bond 23.
or perhaps Maria Freudstien from the short story the property of a lady.

John Cleese as Q
Cleese's Q was not supposed to be Fleming's Major Boothroyd but his successor, so he would not be a Fleming character.

And what about the winnings?
(I have a feeling this thread could become a casino royale Quoteathon)
on topic I honestly feel Phillips Masters fits the kind of Quiet businesman like nature Craig's bond villian have had. I was actually suprised the main villian of Quantum of soalce was Dominic Greene not Phillip Masters.

Hmm... I would love to see Red Grant back in the picture in a very personal, one on one film between Bond and Grant globetrotting around the world as they try to one up each other (Obviously, both parties are trying to find information about the other's organisation).
Why don't you just watch FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE?

As much as I love the film, it doesn't focus on the duality of the two as much as the novel does.
For Christ sake the first half of the novel is spent on Grants upbringing and assignment to kill Bond, under the command of General G.
General G would actually make a brilliant head of Quantum.

I wouldn't Mind General g...Grubozaboyschikov.
How would fans feel if Simone Latree (solitare's real name yet never metioned in the film Live and let die) or Hugo Von Drache (Hugo Drax's real name but never used in moonraker or goldeneye or die another day) was used.
personally I think Eon could get away with it wihtout anyone in the press being wise to it (since they would only be concerned if daniel Craig is topless ... at least american press british press I have no idea what they are concerned with) And honestly It would again be a nice nod to us fan Hugo von Drache could make for a nice member of Quantum perhaps their planner similar to the chess guy in from russia with love (his name escapes me at the moment) .... Would work well for bond 23.

Other possibilities:
Ernie Cureo from DAF
Willy Krebs from MR
What I wouldn't give to see a faithful realization of the "Atta Boy II/newspaper salvo" chase.
There's really so much fine Fleming material that has not been used, if only Miccoli would make the effort.
PS--Reading Spy just now. Kurt Rainer, the Phanceys, Horror and Sluggsy are memorable.

Good topic and several excellent suggestions. And given the psycho-bent of the Craig era, Sir James Moloney certainly seems a likely candidate. I also like the idea of bringing in The Robber--the nasty pelican-shooting baztard.

Good call on the Moonraker material; a faithful adaption would be welcome. Although I think Willy Krebs only really works with Drax. Without him he's just a small-time henchman. And in turn Drax in my opinion only really works with the Nazi/WWII background. Without that his figure loses most of its potential. And of course the character was already cannibalised for DAD's Moon.

Perhaps the Drax figure could be a Slobodan Milošević-esque ex-Serbian war criminal charged with crimes against humanity, and has since changed his appearance and accent, similar to Radovan Karadzic.

Well, might be a possibility. The thing with Drax, what makes him so fascinating and three-dimensional in my view, is his boisterous side, him socıalısing in the City, theaters, race horses, the Blades Club. All that really tabloid fodder, a bit of a rockstar quality.
Naturally absolutely over the top, truly crazy to hide himself in the headlines. Yet in the novel it works, mainly because most oif it is only mentioned by Bond in passing. But DAD tried to capture this very devil-may-care, son-of-a-gun quality in Moon, yet it just fell flat. I don't know what went wrong, I just feel that fine character Drax is well and truly spoilt for the films.
Shame, but can't really be helped.
(*I'd of course glad to be proved wrong by EON in the future )
