Well, what, I suspect, helped Connery then - and now, compared to Craig - is that he had a physique that was probably that of the James Bond most pictured by readers of Fleming and what they derived from description in the books.

Doesn't matter if he's heavier, lighter, less toned, narrrower in the bicep. He had the Fleming-Bond physical image down pat.

But, Jesus, Craig was only 152lbs in QOS!?? Are you sure. What the hell was he in CR?! I've always maintained he was never as "big" as made out, rather cleverly dressed and photgraphed, but 152....!

Moore was about 190 lbs, Craig in QOS was apparently 152. Big difference.

= Craig in CR?

"You musht be joking!".

No. I think he looked better in QoS and I think Craig felt he did too.
Much more of a fluid mover when he is a more lithe. Visually better too. Not so much of the Michelin Man thing. B)

Nice one Shark

But i think Danslittlefinger makes my point pretty well with 'Michelin Man'

BTW, Fleming never described Bond as muscular, or even tall. I believe he refereed to him as lean and around 6'. So while DC is a little below that, all before were a little above it.

I guess at the end of the day most of us know how lucky we are to have an actor of DC's calibre in the role, regardless of physical attributes (i was pissed that he stayed blonde in CR, but now i couldn't care less, since his portrayal is second to none).

I said many years before CR that DC should be Bond after seeing him in 'Love Is The Devil' (i even said it here, or perhaps on AJB) and i'd be happy if he dropped his weight as far as the lean, wiriness of that film. He looked fast and dangerous.

You have to laugh at this thread - what must we sound like?!

So - here is a pic from Thunderball. And this is what excites you so much? You are easily satisfied then.

Posted Image

Germanlady, you obviously like very musclebound men, and there's nothing wrong with that.

However, by any reasonable standard, Connery has a fine physique in this pic. Most men would be perfectly happy to boast such a body, and plenty of women would be far more than okay with their men looking like that, which is why I find your comment about being "easily satisfied" to be rather silly. Connery looks extremely fit, strong and well-proportioned. Granted, he's hardly freakishly muscular, but is that really how 007 is supposed to look?

All the talk about Craig in QUANTUM OF SOLACE being scrawny, skinny, thin, etc. is likewise ludicrous. It's as though we're talking about Mackenzie Crook. I know bodybuilders and personal trainers who really know their stuff and spend most of their lives at the gym but still don't look as "built" as Craig in QUANTUM. And I also know marines and ex-army people (some of whom have recently returned from Afghanistan) who have completely "normal"-looking physiques who are nonetheless really tough customers. A lot of Bond fans try to justify Craig's CASINO ROYALE build by saying "He's just come out of the armed forces", but it's a Hollywood myth that elite military men look like they've just stepped out of PREDATOR or THE EXPENDABLES.

I honestly wonder whether some Bond fans won't be satisfied until someone like The Rock plays 007.

Do you mean Sean Connery when he starred in THE ROCK?
Or did you mean ROCKY?

Or did you mean that other guy?

The conversation is ridiculous. I can't believe people who have suffered both Roger Moore and Pierce Brosnan physiques are now going to split chest hairs over Craig's build.

Though I guess that is the nature of a James Bond forum...

I'm only asking him to bulk up to the weight of Sean Connery in his early films, not a baby oiled, ripped body builder.

I don't think that's a good idea. Daniel Craig should develop his body in a manner that suits him, not Sean Connery. And even Connery was a little on the heavier side during those early years.

I saw nothing wrong with Brosnan's physique . . . at least in his first three films. Only in DAD could I tell that he was starting to gain weight. And he was either 48 or 49 years old at the time.

There you.

Connery's deltoids, traps, and triceps are larger than previously assumed in this thread, even if they're slightly flexed in this photo.

Either way I liked Craig's physique in CR, because like Connery he was large, bulky and physically impressive, however in Quantum of Solace, physically he looked like another Brad Pitt or Christian Bale. Fit, but not something you'd really want to aim for, like Craig's physique in CR.

I honestly wonder whether some Bond fans won't be satisfied until someone like The Rock plays 007.

Far from it, I'll only be satisfied if Craig becomes physically impressive again. Not like a ragdoll in a suit - QOS.

Here are some US Navy Seals:

Posted Image

Most of them even more developed than Craig's physique in CR. Craig's physique in QOS looks tiny in comparison.

Fleming wrote Bond's weight as 175 lbs which is exactly Craig's physique in CR. According to the dressers in QOS, who measured his cloths for the Opera scenes, he weighed a pathetic 152 lbs.

You know what... it may be true that, in QOS, Craig was the lightest Bond to ever don the tux. (Though I still very much doubt the accuracy of those numbers.)

The point, as far as I'm concerned, is that he still appears intimidating. He still appears like he's built like a brick. He's not at all 'pathetic' looking to me.

I'm starting to wonder if some people have seen the fizzy-qs of anyone outside of the Military or Bond movies* if Craig in QOS is considered "pathetic".

*Even then this doesn't work. I suppose Jeffrey Wright is in better shape?

Truth be told, Craig looked pathetic even in CASINO ROYALE. I know everyone thinks he was impressive coming out of the water, but, really, any professional military man worth his salt would be able to blow him out like a child's birthday candle.

Bond is supposed to look like a killer, not a mincing little assistant hairdresser. I'm tired of these spindly girlymen like Connery

This, I think, is what we should be aiming for:

It's what Flemmmming would have wanted, I reckon. Well, Dan, you scrawny little runt, you, you know what you have to do.

@ Loomis - I am not at all suggesting anything overly bulky and wouldn´t have gone into holy Connerys face, if it wasn´t for those stupid rants, that he was too slim in QOS and should get back "in shape" for 23.

Pathetic indeed

Well, let's not get ahead of ourselves. This guy doesn't have the comma of black hair going on. Also, is he tall enough for Bond? What if he's only six foot one or something? Otherwise, he's certainly got the looks. He'd need a bit of bulking up, though, obviously. I mean, Bond's only recently been in the military, after all. Still, a most promising candidate.
