I was wondering (because I'm working on my own fanfiction) how you think Bond would react if he was being blackmailed by one of his colleagues for sleeping with another colleague? The colleague threatens to tell M, and given Bond's history with women from the office, he may actually get fired this time. So what would he do, do you think?

he'd beat the **** out of the colleague whose blackmailing him, or he'd go straight to M with the info. i couldnt imagine bond being blackmailed, there would be no way he'd stand for it.

Bond would say to go ahead and tell. If M fires him he'll thank him/her for it.

If Bond were to be blackmailed it would have to be for him killing someone that he was ordered not to. And then I'd think it would have to be something that if it got out to the public it would cause a war or some other great public problem. Bond couldn't give a damn on whether his life was ruined or not. A blackmail on Bond would only be successful if Bond had something or someone else to protect.

okay, so what if he's afraid the female colleague in question might get in danger if word comes out? Think about Helena Marksbury in HTTK.

depends which bond your talking about. if its the movie bond, then maybe hed let himself. the literary bond wouldnt stand for it. in casino royale vesper is being blackmailed and allows herself to be to protect her husband. when bond discovers this he mutters the bitch is dead line. so i dont see him putting up with blackmail

Bond would take it upon himself to kill, discredit, and/or make the blackmailer's life a personal hell. Could be a good short story or thriller style long story.

Hang on...I have a different theory...the blackmail depends on who the woman is.

If this colleague is now married, and *she* could also lose her job and her husband because of this getting out, I think Bond might play along for a while until he could find something about this colleague to keep things even.

Or....Bond would pretend to allow himself to be blackmailed, if only to find out what this colleague's real agenda was.

Okay, this maybe isn't the answer you're looknig for. But do you think M would really care? If she's not aware of his multiple relationships then there's something really wrong with her 'reign'. I think she'd just laugh and say "tell me something I don't know"

Frankly, I don't see Bond succumbing to blackmail. In both the novels and the films, Bond's womanizing ways are a matter of record. Fleming makes countless references to M's "Victorian" attitudes and his "disapproval" of Bond's ways; and it's always apparent that Bond's partners are always willing. Plus, it's not like it's the 1950s--I doubt if Bond's sexual liasons would be enough to cause trouble. . .unless, of course, he was sleeping with Tony Blair's wife or Laura Bush. Now THERE'S a plotline for you!

Forget Cherie, have him sleeping with Tony Blair. That's something to blackmail the smug git with.

Yup, then it's a matter of pride and also national interest. Mind you, the person with the video tape would 'suicide' pretty quick me thinks.

The woman in question is also a Double 0 agent, but she has screwed up her missions a couple of times and M is really considering to fire her.. she just needs one more thing to push her over the edge. So I thought Bond would be blackmailed in order to save her job. (Of course, both agents will try and find some dirt on the agent who is blackmailing them, don't worry, the story will have a happy end... :))
But don't you think it's possible that at a certain point M has just had enough of Bond's womanizing? That he crossed one line too many? And that she could consider firing him?

Nope I don't think so. She treats him as a blunt tool as evidenced in GoldenEye and Die Another Day, but she does have a soft spot for him. She says herself he's her best agent, and she'd only disponse of him if it were in the best interest of Her Majesty's Goverment. So it would have to be pretty serious. ie. the implications of his womanising have resulted in the death of the PM or something.
