Now that the world has had a month to 'digest' the film on Blue-ray and DVD is there any chance Jim or the mods can create a second poll?

I have a feeling that Q0S has risen in many fans minds since opening weekend when the poll was first created by Jim.

Sure, there are some who feel the same as they did upon first viewing but I think the majority might vote differently. Who knows, some may even 'drop' it after being over-exhuberant as a result of initial excitement?

We have had more than one DC poll...so any chance of creating a Q0S poll part deux?

Thanks in advance.

I concure. I am sure that I am not the only person here whose mind has changed regarding the film. It would be nice to have another poll. And maybe later down the road some sort of statement showing any change of opinion regarding both polls.

My opinion has always remained constant. Well, pretty constant.

QUANTUM OF SOLACE is a very fine but flawed James Bond flick that isn't even fit to live in the same town as CASINO ROYALE.

It has some wonderful elements and is certainly one of the best ever Bonds in terms of characterisation and atmosphere, but it also suffers from an underdeveloped script and a lack of real substance (and, yes, I think CR has both a near-flawless screenplay and a lot of real substance). Also, some of the action is uninteresting or incoherent or juvenile or all three.

I'd rank QUANTUM OF SOLACE as the eleventh or twelfth best 007 outing, perhaps - something like that.

QUANTUM OF SOLACE is a film with some lovely aspects, but suffers from being extremely underdeveloped and the misguided notion that the more condensed the film is, the better. So it's definitely one of the watchable Bond films (which places it in the top 10 somewhere), but it's hardly a masterpiece.

But this thread is not to debate whether or not Quantum is a masterpiece.

Daniel Craig is on the 4th iteration of a "poll". Surely a film so, um, 'misunderstood' deserves to be revisited with a second poll after it's dvd release???

O forget it.

Who cares anyway! Shut the thread down.

Hilly, the mods have yet to add a poll to this thread, so if people are going to contribute to it (which I'd've thought would make it a more popular thread and thus more likely to have a poll added to it) all they can do at the moment is talk about their thoughts on the movie. What exactly are we doing wrong here? B)

A few days ago I had a double bill of Casino Royale/Quantum of Solace and something has struck me as odd. In Quantum of Solace, James Bond does not scar. Not at all. In Casino Royale, we saw Bond get battered and bruised. He even has scars from the Miami Chase on the train to Montenegro. After the stairwell fight, we see blood, it hurts. We see Bond wash his hands and face, wipe the blood of his body. In Quantum of Solace. nothing...

Lets see...

  • He has a massive car chase.
  • Throws himself through a gallery roof.
  • Has a massive B) off fight in a hotel room.
  • Crashes a boat into another one.
  • Boat Chase.
  • Restraunt Shootout.
  • DC3 Chase
  • We EVEN see him smashing his face off a stone floor, after the freefall!
  • Eco Hotel fight...
Not one scar. Granted, he has them in the scene, but they don't last. He smashes through a gallery roof, has a massive fight, dodging glass, etc... Then we see him swagger off, back to the safe house, not even a limp. What happened to the Bond in Casino Royale? And the bloody three-piece suit!

I seem to recall him being cut and bleeding after the hotel fight, and the cut staying with him as he and Camille went their separate ways.

Well he gets so banged up throughout QoS that if the every scar became a permanent fixture for the rest of the film, he'd be unrecognisable by the end.

Anyways.. I think Im about ready to say I like this film as much as CR. I still think CR is a better film, but I find QoS to be just as enjoyable, if not more so, and I like the film more every time I see it.

They're just about on the same level to me. The one thing that I really dislike about ROYALE is that the surroundings feel artificial to me while in QUANTUM everything seems natural. QUANTUM also has superior dialogue in my view.

It is also in QUANTUM that I believe Craig truly becomes Bond. Sure his performance in ROYALE is phenomenal but, to me, QUANTUM is where he shows that he's truly grown into the role, much like Connery in GOLDFINGER.

I feel that QUANTUM is perhaps the most underrated 007 film so far. I hope that in years to come it will be re-evaluated and appreciated like OHMSS and LTK.

Yes, but his scars heal really quickly in CR. And despite all the stuff he manages in QoS, at least he doesn't run through a bloody wall...! (Not that I mind all that stuff in CR, you understand, as it's my second favourite Bond movie. But I'm always amused by how some people claim it's so much more realistic than QoS.) Oh, and his chest still bears some scarring in the love scene with Fields. I know 'cos I looked. Closely... :)

I prefer QUANTUM OF SOLACE to CASINO ROYALE

Same here. Casino Royale rebooted the series in fine style. QoS ran with the baton to greater glory for me.

Casino Royale is head, shoulders, chest, and waist better than Quantum Of Solace.

Quantum Of Solace is in the lower half of the Bond films for me--number 16 to be exact.

I give QOS a 7 out of 10 rating. Overall, it's a decent film, but there are several parts that I don't like and what I don't like in QOS, I REALLY, REALLY don't like.

So to conclude, my attitude/feelings about the film, haven't really changed a whole lot from my first impressions.

Well, as many of you know, I love all the Bond movies in their different ways, and so any film that is in the middle or below the middle is still a good one.

I prefer Casino Royale which is in my top 5. This one I place somewhere around 12th. I think it's the choppy editing and the familiar-looking ending that make it lower than some.
