Interesting.

The story is probably the Hurricane Gold short story that takes place on the boat.

I've actually known this was in the works for some time (Charlie first mentioned it in our BRC interview, but I cut it after checking with the powers that be). Even though I knew it was coming, there are still a few nice surprises. First, the title. Good title. The title I was expecting up until yesterday was The Young Bond Illustrated Companion. I'm pleasantly surprised to see the book is the same size as the YB UK hardcovers. Going to look great on the shelf. I'm also intrigued to see Charlie is the only listed author. I knew he would contribute the short, but I figured all the other "dossier" material would be handled by another writer. Maybe it was. Or maybe Charlie wrote it all himself.

Exciting stuff! B)

Definitely sounds like a must-buy to me. Also glad to see it matches all the other Young Bond books when it will end up on the shelf.

It's too bad that 1-3 didn't have the same style. I wouldn't have been so critical of 3 had that been the case. I mean a skull? Terrible.. but on that hard cover it would have been cool.

At least the US editions are in sync from 2-4. B)

Wonderful stuff - if nothing else, this cements Puffin's/Charlie's attachment to the Young Bond series. Here's hoping a second run of books will be announced in due course!

Good title too! B)

You know, even though I've bought all the paperbacks I have still yet to read them, but I'll buy this and read it first. I may be just crazy that way.

Yes! This is excellent news! Have been longing for a short story as the serie seems to have ended(?). I will be first in line at the bookstore when the book is published.

A "six pack" of a Young Bond boxset won't be too long in coming, I think.

I'm wondering if we'll see a four pack as we saw the three pack before publication of the HG paperback last year. I'll have to rely on my friends in the UK to let me know. I had no idea that The Young Bond Collection had been published until I spotted them in Borders while I was in the UK for the Centenary.

And here we were thinking 2009 would be dead year for the lit Bond. B)

Exciting news. Great title too. I'm really looking forward to reading Charlie Higson's new short story. Should be interesting.

By the way zencat, any idea if/when Danger Society: The Young Bond Dossier will be released in the U.S.? Since the U.K. version comes out before we get By Royal Command, I would assume the U.S. wouldn't get Danger Society until next fall at the earliest, if at all.

I would think it would have to be after the US BRC, so we might not see it until 2011. But I will ask Disney next week.

As it's the same publisher, I'm sure Australia will get it around the same time as the UK release, as with all the YB books. But I will keep an eye out for the exact date.

A preview of a short story seems kind of dumb to me. Not knocking it really, it's just that .. it's already short. B)

I’d read it if I were already getting the book. But I’ll wait for The Danger Soceity.

Well I don't know how "short" this short story is going to be. If you look at the official blurb, it just says "story." I noticed this immediately, but Puffin called it a "short story" in our emails, so I picked it up. But it possible it's something much more substantial.

What excites me here is, hopefully, we will learn the title of the story, and I expect the preview will confirm whether this is the shipboard story Charlie talked about back in '07, or something new...maybe post BRC. Waiting until November for this info would have been murder.
