In addition to collecting her Best Newcomer prize at the Empire Awards this evening, Gemma Arterton also confirmed that she would be appearing as Io in the forthcoming remake of CLASH OF THE TITANS.

Oh yes, with faux-Bond generic Aussie Sam Worthington in the lead. Strangely I think that this would be a better fit for Olga Kurylenko. But anyway, she's trying to be Miss Blockbuster isn't she...Bond, Prince of Persia, now this.

They're remaking Clash of the Titans? Will Miss Arterton play Andromeda?

Probably.

Maybe Olga can play Aphrodite (Ursula Undress's role in the original)?

Arterton is said to be playing Io, who as I understand it wasn't featured in the original?

I didn't even know they were doing a remake. I'm interested. It's a decent movie, but not good enough to be "sacred." I guess I can't really say whether I think Gemma has the chops to play the part, since there's nothing to compare it to, and I've only seen her in QoS, which doesn't give me much of an idea how good she is.

I think she will be mixing blockbusters with small movies like The boat that rocked and 3 & out.
At least hope so.

B) Mads Mikkelsen has joined the cast!

http://www.ropeofsil...h-of-the-titans

"Mikkelsen is playing Draco, a skilled fighter and leader of the Praetorian Guard that accompanies Perseus"

This will be quite the Bond-lite adventure then, with a former villain, Bond girl, and bloke who was nearly cast as Bond. Now we just need Connery as Zeus

That'd be fantastic!!! Excellent choice

I think Arterton is a good choice for the film, based on the Grecian dress she wore at the QoS premiere. Whatismore, for some reason, I find it easier to accept English people as Greeks, than Americans.

Clash of the Titans used to be one of my very favourite films when i was little. Being Greek and brought up with Greek mythology, it was exactly what I needed to trigger a young boy's imagination. I saw it a few years ago, but I was completely underwhelmed. I think the new one seems to be moving in the right track. I 'm looking forward to it (and production photos...)

Liam Neeson's supposed to be playing Zeus.

But if he drops out, they should get Dalton to play him. He used to be "The New Olivier" after all.

Jeez, I just realized that Alexa Davalos played Daniel Craig's love interest in Defiance! Is Craig actually the casting director on this? When can we expect Jeffrey Wright to be announced as Poseidon? B)

SCREEN goddess GEMMA ARTERTON shows off her classical good looks — on a break from filming Greek epic Clash Of The Titans.
Posted Image
The ex-Bond girl, 23, looked heavenly as she stripped down to a skimpy bikini. She was lounging by a hotel pool in the Canary Islands on a day off from the movie — a remake of the 1981 classic.

An onlooker said: “Gemma’s bikini didn’t seem to be giving her a lot of support.”

Luckily, she managed to avoid a Greek tragedy (would that have been a tragedy?)

(What book is she reading....anyone?) B)

Surely they have plans to cast Dalton as Calibos: Lord of the Swamp?!?

Some on-the-set pics of Sam Worthington as Perseus and Pete Postlethwaite as Burgess Meredith.

The cover is similar to WUTHERING HEIGHTS, which would make sense, but it doesn't look exactly right to me.

I hope she is familiarizing herself with it rather than reading it for the first time. Seems quite last minute to emerse yourself in a classic for the first time before filming it.
