Superspy James Bond has been named Hollywood's top hero ahead of Indiana Jones, Superman and Harry Potter in a new U.S. magazine poll.

Bond, who has been played on screen by Sean Connery, Roger Moore, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig, came in at number one in the Entertainment Weekly Top 20 Heroes Poll, with Harrison Ford's adventurer, Indiana Jones, coming in second.

Also making the top 10: Alien heroine Ellen Ripley, played by Sigourney Weaver, Robin Hood, Spider-Man and Die Hard's John McClane.

Ford is the only star to land two characters in the top 10 - his Star Wars hero Han Solo also features.

Meanwhile, the Wicked Witch of The West from The Wizard of Oz beat Darth Vader and cannibal Hannibal Lecter in a related top villains poll.

Surprised to see this, but pleasantly. I wonder if having QoS and the others released on DVD this week had anything to do with it? I'm sure it didn't hurt.

No surprise Dalton and Lazenby were slighted in mention of the actors who have portrayed Bond. Some things never change.

Well no suprise there, James Bond is the best. Kinda weird that they don't mention Timothy Dalton as one of the actor who have played Bond.

Anybody notice what hero is not included? One whose name has been in connection with Bond a lot the past few years: Jason Bourne.

But at least they got Jack Bauer and Dirty Harry in. One parralel between them that I'd never caught was that each of the men lost his wife. When did DH have a wife and in which film do we learn?

Yay for Bond! But Nancy Drew, Bauer, Buffy, Potter, Brown, & Spider-Man ahead of Batman?? Garbage list. Plus Superman's picture on the "Coolest" list is from the decidedly UNcool Superman III.
