FYEO is a complete joke, for example.

Well, it happens to be one of my favorite Bond films (though I would not rank it as high as "Quantum of Solace"). I saw "For Your Eyes Only" in the theatre and was pleasantly surprised. IMO, it's Moore's best Bond performance, though I can easily see Timothy Dalton taking over at that point, and making the film that much better. Just my opinion, of course. B)

What I meant is that for a supposedly 'serious' film/premise, the gags are played to the hilt with things like the Citroen chase, Bibi's ice cream, and the Parrot-saving-the-planet idea.

Moore looked old. On the verge of being Bibi's and Milena's Grand Pa.

The production values looked cheap in certain areas, too.

But it's a Bond film, so it has it's good moments too.

So now it's an incomplete joke?

People love to recycle old drivle...like OLD MAN Roger's drool.

Look, Bond 22 was NOT made for the average 80 year old. The average 80 year old can't afford to carry the costs of a 007 production entirely on their own backs.

There is not a single Roger Moore James Bond film that has the acting and pace of Quantum, arguably one of the finest Bond films ever.

The world has changed since the late 70s when Moore ought to have retired from the role...but he kept going for the pay cheques, irrespective of any semblence of quality control.

What he says about Quantum carries little to no weight with me.

Jeez, calm down. B)

Roger Moore has as much right to an opinion as anyone here. Just because he wasn't a fan, doesn't give you the right to attack his beliefs.

And he's 81, actually.

You really need to learn to take criticism of films you like better.

I would have said the same but in three damning paragraphs. Thank you Safari Suit.

Throw in the idea of the once menacing Blofeld (of FRWL and Thunderball) being turned into a pre-Dr Evil parody in the PTS, among other things, and you have a 007 movie which is virtually a complete joke.

The gunbarrel was out of date with Rog wearing those 1977 Bell Bottom pants.

What else?

B)

I can't see what you're getting at here...

As a person that ranks For Your Eyes Only as his worst Bond movie, I can't really say that the gunbarrel is the thing that irritates me about it.

Would you call Octopussy and A View to a Kill jokes, too? Considering they use the same gunbarrel?

The damage was done with FYEO and the laziness with respect to the gunbarrel continued. Octopussy and AVTAK had their jokey moments but they were both better than FYEO.

Read the entire post re FYEO, esp w respect to Bibi/Citroen/Blofeld/Parrot.

In the end, Quantum is superior to FYEO in my books. By a MASSIVE margin.

HILDEBRAND RARITY: Dr Loomis, I think Quantum of Solace is possibly the best Bond film ever.

DR LOOMIS: Here's my prescription: watch, say, Dr. No, From Russia With Love and Thunderball, ideally on Blu-ray. They'll remind you of what Fleming's Bond is all about. The nonsmoking blond midget is all well and good, but you need a good dose of Connery. Then put on Moonraker. It'll remind you of something called "fun" that once upon a long ago was something that the Bond series delivered superbly. Finally, I recommend multiple viewings of Casino Royale, which gives you all the Daniel Craig brilliance you could wish for but is also full of colour and camp and boasts a Fleming story.

Very true. Sir Roger, myself and others are simply lamenting the fact that the editing is not as good as it was for Casino Royale's action. That film is only 3 years old.

But it shouldn't have been made for the average 12 year old, either (or for the few adults that shares boys's preferences in pace for action scenes).

I commend Roger Moore for publicly criticizing Quantum of Solace. As everyone knows, he also criticized the film for being too violent. I'm in complete agreement with him on the violence and the flash-cutting.

Although Sean Connery is my idea of the definitive Bond, I'm a huge fan of Roger Moore and I always welcome hearing his views on things.
