Shortlist Magazine has an unusually intelligent review of QoS on DVD and Blu Ray. It concludes:

"The 22nd 007 opus may not shake you quite like Casino Royale's sizzling sexual chemistry and iconic scene overload did, and the choppy camerawork can make it difficult to take in all the action, but the complex plot concerning the scramble for natural resources commands your attention, refusing to insult intelligence with superficial clichés, bringing Bond up to date once more in the process."

I also agree with their assertion that "Quietly creepy villain Dominic Greene is underrated as Quantum's slick head honcho, animated with oily aplomb by Mathieu Amalric..."

A lot of reviews seem to make the mistake RE: Greene being Quantum's head honcho. And I'd agree both Amalric's performance and the character of Greene himself are underrated. Partly because it's underplayed, which, as I understand it, is sort of the point.

When they say underrated, in what way did they mean?

Er, that he was underrated, perhaps? Just a thought...

Just got the 2 disc special edition of QOS. Watching the 2nd disc actually upset me due to the fact that so much good footage that i saw on the special features, was wasted on the cutting room floor for the movie.

Sadly, the second disc is the best part of of the whole package. Watching the documentaries showed me how the average QOS "film" could have been a great one.

Hopefully Bond 23 wont be a screw up

Wow, no wonder people didnt understand the title of the film when we have to start bringing out the dictionary description for "underrated" for people B)

I shouldn't worry about it. It's just Dog Bond baiting again. Best to pay no attention.

Maybe I should spell it out for you...exactly HOW was Greene's role underrated in the film? I didn't ask for a definition of the word, I asked how it applied to Greene's role in the movie. Crikey.

Given that I quoted a reviewer, your question is better directed at him. But since I agree with him, I will say that I found Greene to be a subtle, unsettling villain. The callous way he just hands over Olga to be raped and then thrown overboard is a hundred times more chilling and villainous than bimbos being dumped in a shark pool with the press of a button. To my mind, the actor has not been given enough credit for his layered, subtle performance. Ergo, he is underrated - in my view.

Really don't know whether to buy this as I disliked the film so much, but it is still Bond, sort of,isn't it? Some people have said it improves on a second viewing,so I'm gonna have to risk and buy it I think...

While I have a better opinion of the final "Quantum of Solace" result than you do (and certainly don't consider it a "screwup"), now I'm intrigued by what's on the second disc. And I thought I'd settled on the single disc for now. *sigh*

Got the Two Disc Edition yesterday. Watched it twice already. Quantum Of Solace has to be the best Bond film ever. The film just gets better and better each time I watch it. Plenty of bonus features and documentaries, much more than on the Casino Royale DVD. B)

Drat, maybe I should've got the two-disc package. I went with the single disc, anticipating that they're going to come out with an even better package later on.

Let us know how it goes, FVL. I didn't care for QOS upon my first(and so far, only) viewing and am still wondering if I'll buy it.
