By the way, I expect there is already another Q thread kicking about somewhere which the mods could merge this with if necessary.

Someone mentioned him in another topic as an idea for the new Q actor, and in my opinion, it would be a great way to 'reinvent' the character, just as Craig said. What do you think?
Yep, I think it was me, so... I'll second myself!

At the other end of the spectrum (the absolutely worst thing I can imagine) we see a young nervous chap constantly babbling about technical stuff. You know, as Kevin Weisman in Alias.

No. That casting makes no sense whatsoever. Just because an actor toys with gadgets and technology in a TV show doesn't make him a shoe-in for Bond's Quartermaster.
??
I agree with this general statement, but... does Laurie toy with gadgets and technology in House MD?

He's using this walking cane of his, juggling with it. And then there is this peanut stunt he's performing at times. Must qualify as gadget and high-tech these days...

As to the original intent of Ian Fleming, yes, there is the gun discussion in Doctor No. But even w/ Daniel Craig now playing James Bond, the films are a distant blend of the first books and the evolution seen through EON Productions over the years.

Why not Jeeves?

Why not Michael G. Wilson? Q has short appearances in every movie, Wilson has short appearences in every movie, so Wilson could play Q.
Now there's an idea, I say...
But don't call him , or anyone in the role Q, because Q is dead.

If I was a producer? - No way, simply because I'm willing to bet that Laurie would end up asking for too much money nowdays, considering the success of House.

No fuss, no big issue made of the scene, and no blowing up the part into Judi Dench style proportions.
In respect of this I don’t think we really need a Hugh Laurie, or any other famous actor for that matter.

As a fan - absolutely brilliant casting choice, IMHO.

I see what you mean Eurospy, but can he really ask for that much money? After all, he's a TV show star, not an A-list actor (and I'm sure John Cleese asked for much more money than Laurie could ever dream of asking ).

Too old and too MERLIN (which would really be the same part).Richard Wilson is my suggestion.
I think none of us will really second guess which actress plays Q anyway....

Give us a bonafide character actor and an ORIGINAL take on 'Q' (Boothroyd or not) if the concept does indeed return.
