I couldn't find another thread on this anywhere else, so I think I should make one.

I thought it would be interesting for us to list as many sexual connotations/puns/jokes as we can from the Bond movies. It could be anything, names, quotes, subtext.

I'll start.

  • Bond's quote in Die Another Day refers to an erection - "I've been known to keep my tip up!"
  • The name Holly Goodhead, refers to how great she gives oral sex.
  • "I thought Christmas only comes once a year", highlights Christmas Jones orgasm.
Anymore?

I don't want this to turn into a joke thread by the way. It has some great potentional as we can discuss many things that we dared not question.

Well, it's hard to spot them all, the Bond movies are pretty much about sexual connotation :(

"She's just coming Sir". Bond's double entendre to M regarding Mary Goodnight.

Something I've just realised. In The World is not Enough, Elecktra says to Bond, "Do you know what happens when a man is strangled!?", then she sits on his lap. I never really understood this line, BUT after thinking about it, and researching... I came across this....

"It is well known that broken necks often produce strong erections. This was noticed at public hangings. People thought it was the strangling that did it, not the neck breaking, and have been doing it ever since."

So, it is suggested that Elecktra was going to commit Nechrophilia on Bond. Also, she goes in to kiss him passionately when he says. "One last screw!"

PUSSY GALORE - "but of course you are".

MAYDAY - "it was a little restless but I got off eventually".

OCTOPUSSY - "that's my little Octopussy".

SOLITAIRE - "there's no point going off half cocked"

MONEYPENNY - "you always were a cunning linguist".

But these are the jokey, obvious ones. The films also have a sexual sadism bubbling underneath the surface. DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER has it in spades, LICENCE TO KILL hints at SANCHEZ's kinky and violent proclivities and CASINO ROYALE hints that LE CHIFFRE wants to :( BOND with his references to seeing him naked and the very fact he doesn't give a toss about his girlfriend.

Is it just me and my filthy mind, or is there a bit in TWINE that suggests Bond might be up for taking Christmas up the Gary? ("First things first.") If so, this strikes me as a trifle extreme - even for a Bond flick.

Also, what's the deal with the "Well, obviously.... you swallow it"/"I resent that remark" exchange in THUNDERBALL? I've never understood it. If it's a reference to BJs, it isn't funny. If it isn't---- well, what's the joke?

I'm not quite sure where "first things first" becomes a hint at taking it up the wrong 'un, but there we are. Are you sure he didn't say "fist things first"....? (!)

I'm am fairly sure (trust me) that "first things first" is NOT about BOND knocking down her back door!

Well, Q says “Obviously you swallow it”, and Bond replies with “Now?” The joke here is that Bond is showing disregard, absent mindedness and a bit of childishness. He has no idea when to use the item, and with Q developing this thing, wants Bond to put it to full use, is not impressed.

Well, as I recall, Christmas is getting in a flap about something and says: "....or someone's gonna have my rhymes with "class"." At which point Bond leers at her and quips: "First things first." (In other words, "Let's put any discussion of my sexual favours towards you to one side for the moment while we figure out how not to get killed in the next couple of scenes.")

I think Loomis got confused with the "You must keep it on you, day and night"/"I resent that remark!" exchange.

That's exactly how I always understood that line. Although I have to admit that the other translation mentioned earlier in the thread gave me a good chuckle.

"That's because you know what I can do with your little finger." - I really do think there's a sexual connotation in there, besides the obvious one! :)

My all time favourite was Sean Connery's svelte, insouciant delivery of
"Provided the collars and cuffs match..." when asked by Tiffany Case if he prefers redheads, blondes or brunettes.

Am I right in thinking that has something to do with Tiffany's pubic hair?

How can anyone forget the sexual refrence from TWINE when Bond gives Moneypenney the cigar and she says, "I know exactly where to put that." Also from Die Another Day when Ms Frost meets Jinx: "I assume Mr. Bond has been explaining his big bang theory. Oh I think I got the thrust of it."

You want to see sexual connotation, watch the scene where Melina Havelock kills Gonzales in Spain. (Sorry, I'm watching it now) in For Your Eyes Only. Okay, you know what, watch the whole freakin movie.

Bond's line, "First things first" means that he will have her a_ss... later. That's why it is fun.

From LALD:
Rosie: "I'm going to be completely useless to you!"
Bond: "Oh, I'm sure we'll be able to lick you into shape."

There isn't a single James Bond movie that doesn't have multiple sexual innuendos. You name the movie and i'll give you at least two examples.

Obviously, the names of some of the girls are the most glaring examples:

Honey Rider (re-arranged from Fleming's original Honeychile Ryder)
Pussy Galore
Plenty O' Toole
Chew Me
Dr Goodhead
Jenny Flex
Onnatop
Po Bun (Michelle Yeoh's character in the original TND treatment. Miss Yeoh objected.)
Ms Broadchest

Btw, anyone notice Le Chiffre's surpressed homo-erotic tendencies? He couldn't care less if his girlfriend got chopped up by Obanno but look at the way he oogles over a stripped naked Bond, starting with an emphatic "wow"...and then noting how Bond's "really taken care of your body"...and sighing that it would be "such a waste" to have his balls beaten.

Gay S&M for Le Chiffre, anyone?

It wouldn't have surprised to have the kinked Le Chiffre wanting some back door banging with Our James. :)

PS

There have been countless threads on Bond And Sex here on CBn over the years. One expecially long one about FRWL and oral sex, threesomes, homosexuality and S&M. Playboy magazine's history is intertwined with James Bond histroy, both undoubtedly helping to usher in the sexual revolution that took place in the 1960s.

Not a single movie goes by that people wonder about 'orientations' and the like. Look at all the chat that took place here on CBn about Die Another Day. Chat about Madonna insisting that Verity having Miranda Frost as a love toy, Graves/Moon and Zao looking closely at eachother and thus being more than merely boss/employee but bum buddies, Jinx' short, ugly hair suggesting sick man-boy tendencies for Dirty Old BrosnanBond. All kinds of :(ed up :).

Ms Broadchest.

Even her first name of "Stephanie" is a connotation. Even though the second part of "stiff-fanny" means something else to Brits/Aussies than to the Americans it still works.

What hot blooded male wouldn't want some hottie with a stiff fanny? North Americans do engage in some English...one in a while, ya know!

In case i'm utterly daft...what do you mean by 'the second part of..."? Were you referring to fanny as a bum...or have I missed something?

I think you will find the joke is far cruder than that!!! I think she is implying she is very tight!!!

I don't think so.

What would make you imagine that?

Suggestions of tightness would only apply in the case of someone not having had the person. Bond already had her and wouldn't need to be told whether she was tight or not. And Bond knows Renard did her too. So, I don't know how you get the implication of Elektra's tightness from that scene.

Don't Americans refer to the bum/butt as a "fanny"? As an Aussie when I say/hear "fanny" it refers to the ...errr... front bum.
