I thought it would be fun to list some homages you saw in Quantum of Solace.

Goldfinger:

Fields covered in Oil is the most obvious.

The Spy Who Loved Me:

Now THIS was brilliant, during the opera scene Bond and the guard are fighting on the roof, the guard grabs onto Bonds jacket as he is about to fall off the roof. Of course, you know what Bond did.... totally the same thing that Bond did in The Spy Who Loved Me. It's was totally amazing. :(

Octopussy:

I certainly got an Octopussy vibe whilst watching this, after M revokes Bonds licence to kill he is lead away by three agents. He takes care of them in the elevator and walks off casually, Bonds movements is intercut with M's and they evantually meet on the stairs. M tells Bond that he's on the capture of kill list, she allows him to escape. Here is where I got the Octopussy vibe, Bond climbed over the balcony and walked along the wall, avoiding the guards. It reminded me of what Bond did at the Monsoon Palace.

Any more?

The covername of "R. Sterling" refers to THE SPY WHO LOVED ME.

Whilst not direct homages, the film does tips a hat to THE SPY WHO LOVED ME. Who would have thought that eh? But a rooftop push, a dressed up couple stranded in the desert, enough hotel receptionists to give Valerie Leon a run for her money, a nod to Moore's pseudonymn "Robert Sterling" and a gunbarrel that is very Roger Moore echoes 1977 just as much as it does GOLDFINGER 1964.

Casino Royale:

In the eco hotel, Camille is reminded of the house fire of when she was a child, and she is sitting weeping in the corner, surrounded by fire. Bond hugs her and Bond starts to eye up the gas cannister - he would blow a hole in the wall and that would be their way out.

Bond is unsure, and a terrified Camille manages to say... "Take a deep breath, you only have one shot... make it count!". It really reminded me of a violent take on the shower scene.

I honestly felt BOND was going to shoot CAMILLE in the head in that scene - to put her out of her misery. Yes, I'm a sick puppy...

That's pretty cool you thought that. The Craig Bond is very un-predictable. Anything can happen.

I also thought we may have had Dench and Craig involved in a "Bitty?" moment at least once, but it wasn't to be.

That is one for the Brits.

I believe Bond fully intended to kill them both, right up until he saw that gas canister.

I need a second viewing to be sure, but I think the gas canister was not visible in the beginning of the scene; isn't there something expoding first, because of the fire, and unveiling the gas canister? Then Bond in a split second decides to take a last chance and shoot the canister.
Option 2 is that Bond knew from the beginning the gas canister was there, and the film maker just wanted us to think for some seconds that Bond was contemplating double suicide.

Also me; which is a shame really as it's just like the last scene at the end of the last series of Spooks.

He was going to shoot her - the cannister was only revealed when a section of the wall fell away.

I too believe that Bond was going to shoot Camille to put her out of her nightmare. She didn't want to die in a fire, as she nearly did when she was a child, hence her child-like mumblings and fear.

Seeing no way out, Bond saw the pistol, told her to close her eyes and shoot her. After all, she said to him to take a deep breath, and make it count.

It was lucky he was looking towards to wall when the section fell away..!

Great moment.

Exactly.

I think this kind of thing may explain peoples wildly divergent reactions to QoS - all the questions are answered in the film, but you have to be quick, and paying close attention.

Melina drove a Citroen in "FYEO," not a Beetle.

Why do people say that the gunbarrel is reminiscent of TSWLM gunbarrel? (I haven't seen "QoS" yet.)

Ok, it's not a beetle, but is it still not an homage since they are very similar? The female lead, a warrior-woman, helps Bond escape in a tiny car, which is very similar in structure...that sounds like an homage to me

Then how come the Fields scene is an homage...they use oil not gold

Because the final shot of the scene is intentionally done from the exact same camera angle as GOLDFINGER leaving us in little doubt. Other things such as the Beetle are probably mere coincidence.

Not sure if it's an homage or not (I haven't seen the movie, yet) but how about Greene slashing at Bond with an axe like Zorin in "AVTAK"?

The Ones I noticed were:
obviously the Oil covered Fields - Goldfinger
The Guy who Bond pushes off a roof - spy who loved me(wheres peckish?Pyramids:P LOL)
The Boat Chase was like the one from from russia with love
I thought when Bond was telling Cammille how to kill someone it was like in Goldeneye when Bond passes Natalia the gun and says You know how to use one of these? Not excactly a homage though
And I also thought Greene's Lecture on Greene Planet was a little like the one Gustav Graves gave ( try saying that when your drunk ) on Icarus.
Thats all from me I think :(

From what I read, there are plenty of homages.
The most obvious, Fields covered in oil. But I still think that others are more subtle. Which means that they are not replicas to the original scenes, but have similar motifs.
I stand by the FYEO reference. I don't think it happened by coincidence. :(

Camille herself is a motif to Melina in FYEO.

Everyone did, that's what we were lead to

The car chase at the begining, when they go off the road, where there are cranes and stuff, like Doctor No.

Camille is in fact melina, as mentioned.

The shot of Craig waiting in Yusef's house, very similar to CR pts, to -sort of- close the circle. Just like the camille/shower scene.

She was sea-sick/she 's just dead from TB (not a homage, but an obvious try to imitate the coolness).

The bad effect during the parachute, was that a homage to DAD? :(

The rooftop chase, was it the cut scene from OHMSS?

Universal exports, and Ken Adamesque design

I'm sure several of these are merely coincidental, however I feel that Bond waiting in the shadows is certainly intended to represent a full circle from the pre-titles of CASINO ROYALE.

Perhaps an obvious one, but QUANTUM is clearly an update of SPECTRE. I thought the way in which the organisation met at the opera was a clever updating of SPECTRE'S briefing in THUNDERBALL combined with the Whisper idea from LIVE AND LET DIE.

I think you may be right. Doesnt the cannister become apparent AFTER he has picked up the gun?

I always though that Bond was going to kill himself sooner than be captured in The Living Daylights when his drink has been drugged. Theres just a moment where he looks like he is trying to put the gun to his head before he passes out. Although in recent years I have thought perhaps I was wrong.
