The song is tolerable, but this music video is about as good as the book itself.

That was bad. Just Bad.

I couldn't endure it: gave up around 1:40, when she started the discordant wailing again. Ugh.

I don't know what everybody complains about - I think it's a decent rock song - Yes, maybe not so "Bondian" but anyway It's not bad. About the video - I seen worse, MUCH WORSE. Just tune in MTV or whatever music channels you got, sit for half an hour and you probably cry for mercy for it's a lot of . Much worse that the DMC video.

Hey, that's a slightly different version of the song. It doesn't have the dossier narration at the end. Wonder if that's true of the audiobook version as well (I haven't listened to that yet).

I really like this song. Always have. Video is okay. Her singing while lying in a pool of blood is a pretty cool Bondian image.

You amaze me you really do. There is nothing Bondian about that rubbish 80's power rock song. I'm sorry pure crap

Jesus f-ing Christ. Can we just have a thread where each poster apologizes to everybody for liking a Bond book, movie or song?

I'll start. I enjoyed DMC... PLEASE FORGIVE ME!

I'd like to see someone take some of the lovely imagery (the pool of blood, for one) and mix it with actual credit sequence stuff to come up with a mock titles for DMC.

I quite liked it, but now that the book is out the whole concept of having a competition for a theme song for it seems even odder. Not the band's fault at all, because they weren't told what the book was about, but as they weren't, and the book is set in 1967, how exactly is this the theme tune for the book, in anything but name? Chris Cornell provided a powerhouse rock song for an adaptation of a 1953 novel, but he had seen bits of the film and knew what direction it was going in and tried to come up with something that would fit the film. That's surely the idea - a song that fits the film or, in this case, book. But it doesn't, and couldn't have done, except by chance.

That was the winning band for the Devil May Care song??!!! That was just terrible!! I agree that the video is decent with some nice Bond-esque images but the song and her singing was downright awful!! Blech... I just hope they aren't asked to sing the title for Quantum of Solace!!

No sorry. Bond is about cool about style, everything that is so utterly lacking from that song. So sorry, song is crap no apologies.

I'm afraid I have to agree with you on that one. That song lacks anything Bond. So yeah, it's a good rock song, still doesn't mean it's a good Bond-song.

For those who have read the book, does the song fit it in style at all? From what I've read about Devil May Care in these forums I very much doubt it.

No not quite. Not even a good rock song.

No. It was a pretty stupid marketing ploy, dreamed up and judged by people who have no idea what makes a good Bond song, or even just a good song. I think the people who judged this most probably had had a taste bypass.

Well considering they've already gone ahead with a song for a novel, a music video for said song isn't that much farther off.

As to the video itself... eh, not horrific, but not something I'll remember much later on.

No, it couldn't be any further from the feel of the book. I don't know what the judges had to work with, but I have to imagine that at least one of the other entries was a lot closer in tune with DMC.

Objectively, this video is uberlame, and the song is unlistenable. I'm being as kind as possible in my assesment!

Bear in mind the public chose this song from among the final selection the judges put forth, including two that were pretty stereotypical Bond.

If memory serves right, the consensus amongst fans, even here at CBn at the time was that the SAL version was the best version as it wasn't a stereotypical song.

I didn't vote for SAL, I voted for one of the other songs.

So, you can't blame the judges, you'll have to blame the fans who voted for it to win.

It beats Madonna's "Die Another Day" but not by much  the video isn't bad but I don't think it's that great either.

As for the sound, I hear only a sliver of anything resembling a Bond theme. I'll give credit to them for at least trying though, it makes me wonder if this is the winner the others must be craptastic.

I don't think it was even as good as Madonna's but I am in that minority who really hate Chris Cornell's CR. Which I consider this song is in a similar vein. I just hate power rock ballads they are so naff.

Yep. A shame that none of those finalists were really something, in my opinion.
