Is there any way to tell if a copy of DMC for sale online is one of the authentic 1500 signed books, and not just a regular copy that some seller on E-Bay has signed himself?
Question on the 1500 signed copies

Faulks signature is pretty distinctive. Also, you might want to get a copy that has the grey wrapper that notes it as one of the 1500. Ebay is always tricky. You do need to employ some blind trust. You can also go to www.bookfinder.com and buy a copy direct from a dealer. That's where I got mine, cheaper than anything currently on eBay.
BTW, I think it's a little dishonest that some sellers on eBay are selling unsigned UK hardcovers at a large markup saying it's "limited." DMC had a HUGE print run. There is nothing rare or limited about a stand alone first edition.

Definitely through a dealer, then. Thanks!

I got mine from an independent book shop in Falmouth www.signed-books.com but it had no grey wrapper.
I would avoid eBay, after all anyone wanting to make a fast buck can sell on there. Specıalıst book dealers are the way to go.

Don't worry about the wrapper. I was wrong that they have a wrapper. It appears any wrapper or sticker was store specific, not specific to this signed edition.
Congrats.

I just put up my extra copy on eBay if anyone is interested. You'll see that it has a flaw (which is why I bought a new one). Good chance for US buyers to get one and avoid the exchange rate.
