My idea is these will be the same, only on Blu-Ray.
The HD versions airing on the HD channels in the US are the exact same transferts (not finalised as in the UK / Europe, but as finalised in the USA 6 months later).
If they don't include the mono track on every old release, bullets will fly thought, and if Goldeneye isn't remade without the crop, I'll drive a tank through Lowry offices (with Brosnan at the helm)

Splendid. I hope the GoldenEye DVD is treated with respect this time around. What I want changed for this release: Lighten it up to what it should look like, the UE was made darker. Stop this cropping nonsense. Also, re-instate the proper gold letting, not this burnt in white caps lock rubbish.

Great to have them on Bluray - but only if they deserve the HD format. I doubt I'll be buying any until 1) the deserve it quality wise and 2) They cost around a tenner.

I think Dr No, if same as the released UE, will be a must buy release.
Thunderball can do, if the color pop of the original photography is reinstated (I doubt it). It will still be amazing thought.
I'm sure the Broz movies will look OK except for GE (which will probably be the same master, we are stuck with it forever unless EON come to senses, and I think they are too busy with QOS).

A tenner ? Not until the 3D version come around !

It'll take something quite special for me to buy a new set.. Am currently watching the Ultimate Editions and I must say the transfer is stunning. The shiny new Dr. No is miles better then the first time I saw it, on a Betamax video where you could clearly see the quiz show 'Blockbusters' in the background... Recently showed Goldfinger to my father who saw it in the cinema on it's release, he said that the transfer was amazing and made it look like 'A modern film thats been set in the 60's' I imagine this time 2 years we'll all be contemplating the new 'Super-De Duper Editions.'

Nice. I was betting we would see a few older movies on Blu-ray around the time Quantum of Solace hit DVD next year but I'll take it a little earlier. Now, hopefully we have an announcement soon with release dates in the States too.

I think OHMSS raised some eyebrows with its colour grading, too. The GoldenEye cropping might not have been the fault of Lowry, rather whoever encoded the DVDs.

Hopefully, the comments have been noted and dealt with now.

Oh well, I'm glad I held off buying the UE DVDs of the films now the hi-def ones are on the way: I only bought FRWL and LTK in the end.

I guess Blu-Ray really is happening. Time to buy a Profile 2.0 machine, I guess!

Now, how about Universal doing decent hi-def remasters of their classic horror films, such as Dracula and Spanish Dracula!

I've never had a problem with this personally; it's a hell of a lot better than earlier prints where (in the opening beach scene) it would cut from dawn, to broad daylight and back again between shots. Whatever one thinks of the overall colour, at least it's consistent now.

Is it possible to run DVD discs in a Blu-Ray driver?

Anyway, this is great news. I think that the new discs will have more extra material and better quality in picture and sound.
However, I'm not so sure that I'll buy them. I recently bought the 21 films so far on DVD and I don't intend to give a fortune to buy them again!

Yes my friend, standard DVD films will work on a Blu Ray player/Playstation 3.

I said the Blu Rays would come, we've had Bond on:

Betamax
VHS
Laser disc
CD-I
DVD

Super 8?

Anyway, fantastic news! I'm a bit worried about the price though, can see these being about

Well, DVD started out that way, so things will level out soon enough. If I buy a couple a month I can have the lot in about a year! As with the UE DVDs, they might also release 'era' sets!

Yes - plus, if you have a high-def TV, it will upscale the picture so those standard DVDs will look great. I'm using a PS3 now & it's a good player but the bluetooth remote sucks.

Curious on how these will be released. The Special Edition DVDs were released in box sets with the movies mixed amongst several Bond actors & the price was pretty steep at the time. I'm almost hoping for individual movies at a "reasonable" price. I'm sure they will find a way to re-release these several times anyway every few years.

Nice to see we in the U.S. aren't the only ones getting these weird combinations of films. I'd like somebody who markets these to just once give fans a solid reason for why these films are jumbled in mixtures like this.

I'll confess it didn't bother me when the UEs came out and still doesn't, but it really makes me curious as to why they want to sell people such a strange mixture of films other than to try to force you to buy them all if you want a certain actor of films.

Anyone know when Sony is releasing their new player? I heard June sometime. That's when I'm going to take the leap (and don't tell me to just get a PS3).

Either get a Panasonic BD50 or BD100 (the first finalised player coming soon), they are rumored to be the best even for SD vision.

I saw this news item on Thursday! Fantastic news. I'm holding out for one of the new Sony blu ray players coming in the Fall, but I will plan on getting all of the films as well as a player.
I hope some of the framing issues (Goldeneye and A View To A Kill), color timing (Live and Let Die and OHMSS) and audio issues (On Her Majestys secret Service) are resolved for the blu ray releases.

Hopefully some very cool new extras as well!

Great news, it made my day on Thursday..

I'm seriously considering a Blu-Ray player, but I wasn't aware of this new line of player people are talking about. So would I be wise to hold off until these come out or is one pretty much as good as another?

Yeah I agree, just get a PS3, that way you wont have to fork out for a console for the QoS game. 2 in 1. Blu Ray Player and Games Console - think about it.

From Blu-Ray.com:

French film website filmsactu.com is reporting that Fox France, as the distributor for MGM film content, will release six films from the James Bond series on November 5th. 'Dr No', 'Thunderball', 'Live or Let Die', 'From Russia With Love', 'Die Another Day', and 'For Your Eyes Only' will join the previously released 'Casino Royale' as some of the first Bond titles on Blu-ray.

While this date only applies to France, it is not unreasonable to assume that these same films would be coming to other regions, including the United States, this winter. No specs or special features have been announced for these titles at this time.
