Sounds rather elaborate - what with the box being red velvet, and the cover being printed straight onto the book.

Why couldn't they keep it simple like the FEL's or the Higson books.

Still, worth considering.

How this for the latest from Hatchards:

Dear David Schofield,

Thank you for your recent enquiry. Unfortunately, we have now pre-sold
our entire allocation of the special edition of 'Devil May Care'. I do
apologise for any disappointment caused.

Yours,

Mark Hammett
Mail Order Manager

I presume speculators have been in and bought the lot to stick them of Abe and ebay at inflated prices!!

What is the bloody point!!!! these books even being offered by the stores to the public????

Dear David Schofield,

Thank you for your recent e-mail. We put these books onto our website
last week and sent out an e-mail to our E-Mail Alert List on Saturday.
They had all sold by first thing Tuesday morning. I am afraid that there
will not be any spares.

UGH.

Guess it will have to be eBay then.

But wow. The entire print run gone just like that? Seems somewhat telling of how the collecting niche of booksellers and buyers is going to be treating this Bond novel.

I'm going to wait a few months until the hype dies down before I buy this edition. Of course I already pre-ordered the regular book and that will quench my thirst, but this one will require patience on ebay.

I just got all excited about this edition and that I'd be able to order one through Hatchards... only to find out they're sold out already...

One of the first to be scalped on Ebay for GBP 250:

Perhaps Mark Hammett should have put some sort of limit per each order. Then more people would have a chance of owning one instead of being forced to bid at grotesquely inflated prices.

Ah, but will Faulks be "signing as Ian Fleming" as well?

It is indeed frustrating that they've sold out already. Still, comforting to know there seems to be a healthy amount of interest in this book.

I suppose the only thing we should do is not support these people purely profiteering. Obviously the person who has 2 of these for sell on ebay bought them purely to sell on, when it is clear many of us above would have bought the book just to have the pleasure of owning one. But then again is not what that person has done the American way?

This ebay seller is saying he's getting his books direct from the publisher so, presumably, it was not a Hatchards exclusive. So this edition may show up in other stores.

I asked Peguin they told me that waterstones have limited copys of the book. I also asked Iam Fleming publications and they said only local independent book shops will get the limited edition but gave me no other details.

Anyway, as everyone has said its near impossable.....all but for the fans who are willing to sleep outside waterstones in picadilly circuis ready for Wednesday 28th May morning when they will be opening early for fans to grab a copy of the limited edition of the signed slipcased 100 pounds copy. Good luck to anyone that can make it!!!!

Pick up a copy for me while you are there.

Good luck!!

Not sure if this has been mentioned but in addition to the Lt Ed Signed and Slipcased version there are 1500 signed copies doing to the rounds at independent bookstores. They are also available on Ebay, strangely enough, at inflated prices of around 100 pounds.
I had my mum phoning around a few places yesterday but they had all sold out already ahhhh.

Wrt buying the Bentley edition not now I see copies approaching 1500 pounds on Ebay, i think in the short term they will only get more expensive.

I was very happy to have landed a Limited Edition (the red box) on the day, but I learned about the 1500 too late. Blasted around London and they were long gone (Foyels and Murder One had had them). However, I did stumble on copies at Borders Oxford St that had covers signed by Tuuli. Very happy to grab one of those at cover price (actually, it was free as I won a
