I'd really dig a Winehouse theme (assuming that everything that makes her unique and interesting isn't watered down in her collaboration with Arnold).

Winehouse is the Jackman/Owen of this particular strand of fan speculation, i.e. the obvious choice. I'd rather that the filmmakers went for the Daniel Craig, which they did so brilliantly last time with Cornell.

I'm of two minds on the subject. I'd certainly love for them to find a less recognizable, non-flavor-of-the-month artist that could bring something really new.

But Winehouse wouldn't be bad. She has a great sound and could deliver a Bond song that's actually a legitimate hit (something Cornell couldn't manage).

True, true and true.

In terms of Cornell, however, I think they broke with a 41 year practice of actively TRYING to go for a hit (OHMSS theme excepted) on the title song...after Goldfinger they tried to go for the hit w Tom Jones through to Mads.

I think they 'matured' on everything that had to do with Casino Royale, including on Cornell's song (which I rank in the top half and, with Klienmann's titles, in the top quartile of the Bonds) 'hit' or no 'hit'!

I couldn't give a stuff if the song is a hit or not. In any case, wasn't "A View to a Kill" the last "proper" chart hit for Bond? Big deal. All the Bond songs will live forever.... because they're Bond songs.

I'd like Ian Brown, Led Zeppelin, Morrissey or My Bloody Valentine for QoS. All stunningly unlikely choices, of course, but, still, I reckon such acts would be preferable to Winehouse in terms of giving the Bond theme song an almighty Cornellish kick up the backside.

This is coming from someone who is illiterate when it comes to popular music and has never heard Amy Winehouse before and had heard only vague allusions to her strange behavior.

I heard a clip of her singing recently (I can't remember where) and I thought she would sound great singing a Bond theme.

Take it for what it's worth.

(And just yesterday I read that Shirley Bassey is covering some of her songs. If their styles mesh nicely, then thats a good sign, no?)

I'm with Loomy and Harmsway on this one; whilst I'd like her to record the theme, I'd like to be surprised even more.

Regardless of whether or not she's got it, I tend to think that it is indeed just a demo of some sort (if the story is in fact true to begin with). We may just be speculating about a song that will be categorized with Alice Coopers version of "The Man With the Golden Gun," Straw's rendition of "The World is Not Enough," and k.d lang's "Surrender," which have been mentioned in this thread already.

Delighted. As soon as it's official, all the Amy-bashers can toe the party line!

Or.....NOT! Dismissing this story, but if it's true then we should worry. What happened last time a feted and talented singer who likes to control and bring in her own producers got the reins? The worst Bond song EVER. That's what. Sure, Winehouse has got a good voice. If they get David Arnold and Don Black to write the song and get HER to toe the party line, then we should be ok. Mark....who?

I so do not agree with this statement. The Madonna song was different, NOT the worse Bond song ever. Ever heard the song at the end of 'Goldeneye'? Now THAT was the worse song EVER! 'Die Another Day' was not your typical Bond-song and what so bad about that? I'm wondering what people thought about 'Live and Let Die' when it was released. Wasn't very Bond-like either up until then.
Having said that, I'm very excited about the Amy Winehouse rumor. I hope it's true.

Another article stating that Winehouse has the Bond gig...apparently she left the recording studio today after penning a track.

Bring in Eric Clapton, Trevor Rabin, David Grohl, or possibly David Gilmour.

a David Gilmour bond theme now that would be bluesy and cool.

If Amy teams up with Mark Ronson to record a track they co-wrote with David Arnold, I would be happy with that.

Gilmour is no fan of Hollywood he made this clear in interviews when promoting On An Island, I wouldn't mind Grohl but Clapton he's just been peddling the same old thing for years now.

Floyd as a whole wouldn't do Bond, Waters is defintely not gonna be a Bond fan, have you seen the lyrics to the tide is turning on Radio Kaos about Rambo and sly.

And I think that's going to be the one thing that harms her chances. It's probably been said before - and quite possibly by me - but if you watch the footage of her performance at the Grammys, two things can be seen: one that they spen a hell of a lot of time with the camera on her musicians, and that the few times she is seen, she's clearly in no condition to be on stage; and two, her reactions to having won the awards are just ... wrong. All her emotional responses are completely incorrect. She was obviously either on something during the night or coming down from it.

And I don't think EON would want to commit to someone like that, showing us exactly why she should be in rehab (even if she did say no, no, no) and being consistently inconsistent in her reliablity, regardless of how good her voice is.

David Gilmour! Yes, now that's a proper damn good choice. No idea if he would agree to do it, but with the new take on the films and Daniel Craig's 007 you never know. He should be asked along with Massive Attack, Radiohead, The Cinematic Orchestra, Portishead and possibly even Joseph Arthur and the Lonely Astronauts (who I know would do it, they love their movies).

Gilmour won't do it as my post said before, I know my Floyd and Gilmour said he has no love of Hollywood, it all about violence he said.

It's fair enough liking an artist and thinking they'd be suitable but it's best you know their motives before you go mentioning people and Gilmour just wouldn't be interested.

Pink Floyd doing anything together ever again (except the odd charity gig) is a complete (wet) dream. They used to do art-house French/European 'films' in the 'old' days but forget it now.

Gilmour and Waters will never do blockbusters either as Pink Floyd or solo.

That right thigh looks kinda gross...sickening. I hope she's ok and not shooting up that leg behind the knee.

And once again I truly apologise for suggesting that it would be historic if she o.d'd after cutting the Q0S title theme. My bad.

I think that Winehouse is a good bet for the theme as long as she stays out of Rehab/the pub.

I don't care what she looks like. I don't care what she takes. If she does a good song then that's all that matters for Bond. I want a great Bond theme and I think she has the voice to do it. Her personal problems are none of my business

I hate this quote:
Her voice is fine, it's just her that's the problem.

The most important thing is that David Arnold is heavily involved with the song so that he can use it in the movie score and make it work with the rest of the film! Thats why we call it a Bondsong.

Did David Arnold help write the Bond theme then? Because he seems to be able to slip that in quite easily. John Barry did alright with that too- plus From Russia With Love; he didn't write that either.

I'd like to see the title song worked into the score again. Helping write it would be great but, even if Arnold doesn't help to write it, he needs to get the finished product before he gets to work on the score.

It seems that Winehouse is certainly working with Ronson again on something, and so these rumours could well be true. I notice that they've spread from the Sun to lots of other celebrity sites and other newspapers.

Yesterday's MX newspaper on Sydney trains also announced that Amy Winehouse was to write and sing the theme for QoS.

I've just heard it on German radio and they gave it as a fact: 'Winehouse is doing Bond song'.

Unfortunately this only mirrors the dwindling quality of modern journalism: a confirmed report is no longer backed by (at least) two independent sources but often just by two people that believe it might be true. So it could well be that that the Sun has just started the other reports.
