SAM Worthington is sitting on a park bench, pondering how his life would have changed had he - and not some English actor called Daniel Craig - been cast as the next James Bond.

Ah, Mr Bond, perhaps you would like to make love to my mistress before I have you killed? Muhhahhh....ha ha ha ha.......

I can imagine Daniel quitting around the 2014 mark and yes, Henry Cavill certainly looks the part for then, and he will be a much better age by then.

As for Worthington, I haven't really seen him in anything (for shame, I know), but I gather most people here think he's a likely candidate.

Problem is, by the time its time to choose another Bond actor, theres a good chance Worthington will be too big a star, he's got some lead roles in some very big up-coming movies, including Avatar and Terminator 4.

Yes, it will depend on just how much his career will take off. If Christian Bale hadn't been quite as successful, he may still have been considered for Bond.

Yes, I think 20-something is too young. Daniel Craig is perfect.

Sean Connery IS James Bond.

EON probably agrees
Don't see what the big deal about Worthington is, that photo just screams "bloke in pub". I'm also of the belief that Terminator 4 will be a complete failure (McG + No Ahnuld = hasta la vista, baby), and Avatar could easily end up being an expensive mess (remember AI, that was supposed to be the biggest and best sci-fi flick evarrr?). Hopefully some better candidates surface by the time a new Bond is needed.
I'm not against an Aussie in the role btw, I wouldn't mind Alex O'Loughlin, for instance.

True, but, to be fair, you could also say that about a lot of Craig's pre-Bond photos (and indeed a fair few of his post-Bond pics!), and look at what an amazing Bond he turned out to be.

Well, the main thing about Cavill, as I see it, is that he's so much younger than Craig (he was, what? 22 when he was under consideration) that even if he were to replace him in fifteen years it would look like another BOND BEGINS reboot. Cavill's window came with CASINO ROYALE - he'll never be Bond now (or at least he won't be Bond next - I guess he might replace the following guy). Anyhoo, I reckon it would be ludicrous to consider Cavill the Bond-in-waiting.

Fair point. We would never have suggested Daniel Craig if Brosnan had left the role before Die Another Day.

Although I still think Hugh Jackman would have made a great Bond!

Barbara Brocolli said that Jackman was not "manly" enough. At the time, he was starring as a gay dancer in a musical.

He seems pretty manly as Wolverine.
I'm with DaveBond21 in regards to Hugh Jackman. He was always my number one choice to replace Pierce Brosnan.
Speak now or forever hold your piece.
I think he got the point.
Looks like he came to a dead end.
He had lots of guts!
Yes, considerably.

I truly believe there will be no other actor to take over from Daniel Craig (if that is what Eon at that time want - a hunch of mine says they could sign out with Craig...for good or bad) than Henry Cavill. If this was pre DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER, he is the Dalton or the Brosnan in the early 1980's. His time will come. Assuming he and the public want it.
spynovelfan, on 23 February 2008 - 12:11, said:
Brilliantly said. Though Clive Owen was never that much of a contender for Bond then or now. I don't know why his name keeps coming up. Oh yes, I forgot - he wore a tux in THE CROUPIER and has smouldering dark looks (or did until he aged ten years badly). That is more than enough for the narrow minded speculators.

And then I remember my prejudice against Craig on appearance versus the "accepted image of Bond"... Was convinced it HAD to be OWEN.
And then I saw Casino Royale.
Now if I can accept Craig as Bond (who looks absolutely nothing like the Fleming version from the books), then it would be foolish to write anyone off.

I don't really want to even think about the DC era ending, but when it does come to an eventual end I think Henry Cavill is my top choice to get the role. He's got the looks as well as the acting chops to pull it off.

He is too young at the moment, that is for sure. I don't think we'll need a replacement for Daniel until 2014 or so.
