"Bond blinks first in the battle of the blockbusters"

QoS will now open on November 19 in Australia, so as not to clash with the opening day of Baz Luhrmann's 'epic', and grandiosely-named, "Australia". Probably a wise move, given that this must be the one territory in the world eagerly anticipating Baz's new movie: we do love "our Nic", and "Our Hugh", and any blockbuster movies involving Australia even remotely (witness M:!2), let alone named Australia!

They should have brought the opening date of QoS forward even further - we'll still have to wait a full two weeks after the US!

Yay, November 19! There really is a God! Sure, it's square in the middle of exam period, but if I need a break - and odds on I will - then you'll know where to find me.

Agreed, this is excellent news for the Bond fans here, down under.

Some sort of a premiere will take place in Antwerp on 24 October:

The producers of the European continental version of Night of the Proms announced yesterday, that James Bond music will be played this year. (What part(s) they didn't say.) And that they were very proud they've been given permission to accompany this on a large screen with fragments of both Daniel Craig films!

The continental Proms are a mix of Pop and Classic. After several shows in Antwerp, the first on 24 Oct., the -more or less- same show will tour to the Netherlands and through Germany in Nov./Dec. as well. This year the Simple Minds, Live, Sinnead O'Connor (BE + NL) or Kim Wilde, 10CC, Tears for Fears and Robin Gibb (Germany) will perform, accompanied by the Il Novecento Symphony Orchestra. (Believe me, they are very good. Even the BBC uses their arrangements for their Proms in the Park!)

Would create a nightmare for the publicity departments. The actors and principal crew members can only be in so many places at one time.

Good point, it's just that so many Blockbusters like TDK, Xmen trilogy, etc, do a WW release

Have to spread things out a little.

On the whole, the release dates for Quantum of Solace are generally quite close together. Japan's is the main oddball.

It seems Japan always gets screwed? Not that I care, but I would have to think that is mainly local laws that delay films over there...I mean, 2009 to see QoS is just insane

Taiwan's November 7. Great. It used to be we had to wait until the Chinese New Year - a major holiday season usually in late Jan. or early February.
There is one, just one, poster in the Taipei subway, of DC with his big gun.

Was pushed back one week from its original 7 November date due to Harry Potter (originally scheduled to open in late November) was pushed to 2009.

It really, really sucks.
