Glad to see my thread got merged with the original, of which I was unaware. But didn't there used to be some sort of notice when this happened?

Yes, you get what appears to be deja vu but is really The Matrix glitching.

Were the Brosnan films this anticipated, I can't remember much. Since I wasn't aware of the media coverage on the Bond movies from 95 - 99.

Yes.

I'll predict it will do better than Casino Royale commercially, but not quite as well critically

Agreed. And no BAFTA nomination for Craig this time, sadly.

Casino Royale:
Domestic: $167,445,960
Foreign: $426,793,106
Worldwide: $594,239,066

Quantum of Solace
Domestic: $180,000,000 (a bit more than before due to Craig being more established)
Foreign: $575,000,000 (the dollar aint what it was plus more sales in newer markets)
Worldwide: $755,000,000

But it will sell just a little more tickets.

But even with "just a little more tickets" it would be the 3rd most succesful Bondfilm of all time based on admissions after TB, GF and FRWL.

Agree with a lot of previous posted estimates
$180-200 mill US
$430-450 mill International
$610-650 mill worldwide
Obviously hoping it will do even better, but realistically based on CR's popularity, this is about it.

The Bond movies are *British* films, aren't they? So surely the "domestic" box office numbers should refer to the UK?

Hope to be surpised about the higher BO but prepare myself for a bit more than CR.
But unfortunaly here in Russia people want fun a la Brosnan Bond movies (not that I have anything against it :( ) so the results for Qos won't be that great, I suppose. :)

Excuse me for offtop Q but How's Pierce's Mamma Mia going in the UK in terms of BO? And what must be Qos UK numbers to make it a top film of 2008, I wonder?

It's not low, really. That's the equivalent of CR's $167m two years ago.

True, but most movies are based out of Hollywood, so the worldwide standard has been set. Domestic refers to US plus Canada.

Last I heard it was over £60 million. Titanic floats at the top with about £69 million and CR is elsewhere in the top ten with about £55 million.

I think the movie is going to be an absolute smash worldwide... probably $550 Million and a minor increase in the U.S., I'd say about $185-200 Million.

I think the opposite. Most of its increase will come from the US (and it'll have a much better opening weekend there, I'm thinking $50-60 million instead of CR's $40 million), although the dollar is no stronger than it was two years ago (currently, it's marginally weaker and dropping) so I imagine overseas grosses will also rise. Not so much in the UK, where CR was already a colossal hit, but in other countries. Maybe the earlier release dates in India and China will help curb piracy's effect there.

Anyway, $200m domestic, $500m overseas, $700m worldwide seems a likely outcome. I think its domestic opening weekend will be close to $60 million, with just under $25 million opening day.

Being Bond, QoS is a natural sure fire hit. I think it could surpass CR actually - fitting more people in with its shorter run time, and with people coming back for more after being so impressed with CR.
