Any fans of Herve Villechaize the enigmatic actor who played Nic Nac in TMWTGG? He certainly had an unusual life which he tragically ended himself in 1993. Here is a mini biography on him and also a "fan's" poem from a tribute site.

What are your thoughts on the guy?

Well, you can't say the guy didn't live and interesting life while he was here. Contrary to a lot of fans, I always liked Nick Nack. I used to watch Fantasy Island a lot as a kid.

I really don't know how to react to the poem.

He was a very charismatic character who had problems dealing with his fame and fortune. Aside from the final seen in TMWTGG I thought he was a great side kick, slightly menacing, a good foil for both Scaramanga and Bond to play off.

The poem does nothing for me, its very twisted and bitter, maybe that's how Villechaize was in the end, only one person knows that answer.

An interesting character, not sure about his role as a henchman though...

I absolutely love Nick Nack - he's one of those iconic Bond henchmen. Utterly ridiculous though.

I always thought he could have been a more interesting character if they had done it realistically. He was playing a caricature in TMWTGG, really.

Still, classic character, interesting actor.

*DE PLANE*
Herve...why?
Why, oh why...did you die?
Why did you die?

Herve! You!
You stupid midget, you!
...Stupid midget, you!
...Stupid midget, you!

Herve Villechaize
Herve Villechaize
Herve Villechaize
Herve Villechaize...

Ricardo! Ricardo!
Ricardo! Ricardo Montalban!
Ricardo Montalban!

Ricardo, why?
Why, oh why...why did you let him die?
Why did you let him die?

Boss, Hey Boss!
Boss...where is the plane?
Am I really insane?
Now I don't feel any pain.
'Cause I'm resting in my grave.
And the worms are eating my brain.
Isn't that a shame?
'Cause there is no more plane.

Sidesplitting. Quite, quite brilliant.

I want to hear that poem performed musically in the style of Laurie Anderson.

I think it is accompanied by music on the website.

I think that goes without saying. And plankattack, I also find the poem unintentionally hilarious... especially the worms are eating my brain bit.

It seems there is a new biopic about Nick Nack out soon.

Love Nick Nack, but don't know what to make of the poem tbh. I'm assuming it's referring to Fantasy Island the TV series he was in ?

MUSHROOMS

Oh, monsieur

I fooled you

I may be small
But I never forget
It's locked
I can't breathe
Let me out of here

You big bully

Through that door
So near and yet so far
I don't expect wounds
Only a clean kill
This is a duel a la mort

I wonder what it can be

I will now begin the count

Ironically I just watched The Man with the Golden Gun and Nick Nack is one of the really outstanding things about the film. It's a really great twist on the henchman stereotype. There's a lovely triple master/henchman thing going on here between Hai Fat (supposedly Scaramanga's boss), Scaramanga and Nick Nack (supposedly the servant, but setting Scaramanga up with live training, with real risk and may or may not stand to benefit from Scaramanga's death).

Nick Nack is not intimidating, I don't think he's meant to be. He puts in a fine performance and easily holds his own against both Moore and Lee. He's never threatening to Bond (although I'm scared by the flying wine bottles - they are all magically empty! What beastly trick is this?), but poses an interesting dilemma - ultimately solved by a suitcase.

Certainly a unique Bond character, who doesn't overstep the mark (unlike certain stainless steel teeth).

Yes it is an interesting relationship he has with his boss, Scaramanga.

The original name for the Nick Nack character was Demitasse (French for "half cup") in any early script, which as a result of Herve taking the role would have been quite apt considering he was French. No?

I liked him as Nick Nack. I think he was a good henchman. Not among the best but very solid and enjoyable.
