I really enjoy having the radio ads for the james bond films on the dvd's. Are there other promos other than the ones on the dvd's? How woud I attempt to find these? Were they originally distributed to radio stations via a vinyl record promo?
I would like to somehow put the existing ones in a collection on cd and also find some others that I haven't heard.

It's a shame more of the radio ads, tv ads and trailers weren't included on the 2nd go around of the dvd's. The Ultimate Editions... Why does Moonraker only have one trailer, no radio or tv ads? Same case for many of the other films too.

Anyway. Thanks for posting!

I'm curious about finding the filming scripts for the Roger Moore films too. If anyone knows about those please post or email me. Thanks!

Pretty sure you can find a different Moonraker trailer on YouTube. It's been linked to from these forums a few times.

The James Bond 30th Anniversary CD has radio spots for YOLT, Thunderball, & LALD, at the end of disc 2. Not sure if they are the same ones on the DVD's but you can preview them through the link I have to Amazon.

Thanks for the posts! I have seen the other Moonraker trailer on you Tube! I also have the 30th anniversary 2 cd set with some of the radio spots.
I believe there are quite a few different ones for each film on the dvd's.
How were these originally distributed to radio stations?

Thanks!

I've always thought it was strange that Moonraker, one of the most successful and hyped Bond films, had the least representation in its media on the DVD. I guess it's just what's available out there.

A guy whose a big Bond fan in my area made me a tape once of many of the radio spots, all of which I think eventually ended up on the DVDs. I sometimes see radio spot records show up on eBay auctions.

Yes! that is the other trailer! It SHOULD have been on the dvd!

So the radio ads were on 45 records?

Does anyone have a good contact or know of where I can locate them?

I'm also looking for scripts of some of the Roger Moore Bond films. Mainly the shooting scripts!

Thanks!

Turn - Do the records on Ebay feature the same ads then what is on the dvd's then?

To anyone - The ads were distibuted on tape or vinyl then? I recall seeing one for The Man With The Golden Gun on ebay, but the dvd doesn't feature any radio ads...

Does anyone know more about how the ads were created for the films and the distribution?

Is this something that is impossible to find or locate outside of Eon?

Would John Cork, or one of the dvd producers or the cd producer from the 30th anniversary cd have more knowledge? Is it possible to contact John Cork? I have seen him do interviews with Bond sites before...

Thanks for your help!

I'm still trying to locate someone who possibly has the tapes or records of the ads. My post in the Collectibles secton was closed as a duplicate. I thought maybe that collectors or vendors would look in there for people trying to find things, etc. ...

Ok. I went through the DVD's. The following titles don't have radio ads on the discs. From Russia With Love (it has radio ads, but they are for double features with Thunderball, not original ads), Moonraker, Octopussy, A View To A Kill, The Living Daylights, Licence to Kill, Goldeneye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough, Die Another Day, and Casino Royale.

All of the UE ttitles have trailers. Casino Royale does not..

I also noticed that many of the films were missing tv ads... Would be nice to see those included next time around...

Up until MOONRAKER, all the radio spots were released on discs and they ranged from LP size to 45 size. From MOONRAKER to OCTOPUSSY, they were released on small open reel tapes and then cassettes after that and finally CD's.

The amount of radio spots varied from film to film with some having 22 spots (GOLDFINGER) to as little as three spots (FOR YOUR EYES ONLY and others). The lengths of the spots ran from 60 seconds to 10 seconds, with various lengths in between.

At times, there were re-issues that were 'Reveiew Spots' that quoted various critics (MOONRAKER).

One of the rarest is for the DOUBLE DOUBLE-0-7 campaign for the limited re-release double-bill of THE SPY WHO LOVED ME and MOONRAKER.

Hope that helps.

Thinking about Moonraker onwards, It's probably to do with the way media has changed, in the late eighties and nineties, it would be rare to advertise a film on the radio (The latest film I can think of to have had a radio campaign was Monty Python's The Meaning of Life in 1983), and Television adverts for films seem a little cheap now, not that there's any need when you can rely on Aston Martin and Omega to do your job for you. With more emphasis on Poster Campaigns, and more importantly, Cinema Trailers, there's not so much need for Radio Campaigns anymore.

Now that doesn't quite explain From Russia With Love, but it's entirely possible that there just wasn't a radio campaign, or it may be as you suggest, they can't be traced. Unfortunately the stations with the best archives are generally public and state broadcasters such as the BBC, which wouldn't advertise anyway. Weren't there some pieces of radio material on the Thunderball second commentary? Are there any more commentaries with those type of tracks included?]

EDIT: Just realised that I've been beaten too it by somebody who actually knows what they're talking about, so ignore my comments

Thanks for the responses!

Were the ads returned to EON or did the stations retain ownership of them?

Are these ads something that has ended up in the hands of collectors?

I am sending a letter to EON on the subject. I hope they have more information on the subject. There doesn't seem to be a lot of information on the subject which is a bit odd as Bond is so huge. It's an obscure question I guess.

I'm curious about other ads and promotion via media for the films. How many trailers were there for Moonraker? I'm sure there were also tv ads as well?

Were tv ads also sent directly to tv stations?

I recall that studios during the early 80's would at times receive tapes for promotion with interviews from cast and filmmakers? Later on during the 90's they contained B roll footage and usually the trailers. Very cool stuff. Would be cool to see on the next round of dvd's.

Thanks for posting!

They normally only show one side of the label, which is like a normal record album, listing the various tracks, much the way the DVDs have them as well.

Stations did not return the ads, which is why some end up on the collector market. I do think there was some sort of clause in there to destroy them after finished, and this likely happened more often than not.

Good luck getting a response from EON.

Sorry to butt in, but the spots on the DVD's are from the discs (which, at times, can be found on E-bay). Some are only one-sided, some are not. It is up to the E-bay seller to point this out, or for the buyer to ask.

Stations, like theatres that received the posters, were to "return or destroy" them after the run. If they were not kept for some reason, they were just tossed because they just cluttered up the place.

As far as EON goes, they probably do not have any inventory as the spots on the discs came from collectors, as did many of the poor quality trailers.

Flemingfan - That's incredible to me that that EON would not have copies of the promo stuff from the films! Crazy!

I also did not know that the material on the discs was from fans! Wow!

Hopefully the rest of the trailers and ads exist somewhere so they can be included in the future dvd's.

Does anyone know of a good resource for the radio ads that are not included on the DVD's? I would really like to create a cd or playlist of them all.

Thanks!

I did a bit of searching on You Tube for the ads. It doesn't seem like there is very many (any?) radio ads for the Bond films on the site. Is this something that would be ok to add online and has someone considered doing this before?

It appears most of the release trailers, music videos and title sequences are on there.

I'm also curious about other things that would be cool to have out there. Most of the trailers are out there, but not all of the teaser trailers (Moonraker teaser for one. Where is that anyway?). Another cool idea would be for the Open University Spy Who Loved Me documentary. I know there are some promo videos that were sent to tv stations as well and these would also be of interest to Bond fans I think as well.

Also of course there is the alternate version of On Her Majesty's Secret Service from it's ABC airing. I've never seen this and would like too for curiosity mainly...

It was a bit disappointing to see a lack of stuff out there, especially when I compared it with some other film franchises..

I think all of the Bond trailers, ads and radio spots online would be a great thing.

I completely agree, particularly in the case of CR.

I still refuse to accept that there isn't any trailer/TV spot in its DVD/BD releases, not even in the Collector's (or Deluxe) Edition. And this is the only case in the entire EON series, where there isn't any promo material- because it was already announced the release of the trailers for the QOS's DVD/BD-. Damn Sony Home Entertainment!!

I still remain hopeful that more of the TV ads and radio ads will end up on the blu ray versions in the future. It appears the current blu ray releases are not adding new extras other than the HD versions of some of the documentaries.

It would be nice to include more than 1 trailer for films too. Moonraker is a huge oversight. 1 trailer. No teaser, no tv ads, no radio ads, etc..

I'm still quite interested in this topic. I was hoping the blu rays might include a few more features, especially trailers and ads. Both video and radio.

I reviewed the DVD's and Blu rays and found that the following titles have radio ads:

Dr. No
From Russia With Love
Goldfinger
Thunderball
You Only Live Twice
OHMSS
Live and Let Die
The Man With the Golden Gun
The Spy Who Loved Me
For Your Eyes Only

Did I miss any?

Would love to be able to listen to the ads for the other films...

Here is a link with many of the radio spots. Some previously released and several that have not been released on DVD or blu ray.. (Moonraker, Moonraker / Spy double bills, The Living Daylights, Octopussy, License to Kill)

Still missing A View To A Kill, Pierce films and the Craig films...

I'm sure there are other spots for Roger's films, Daylights and LTK too.

Very cool that fans can now hear all of these. Hopefully more to come!!!!
