Variety has an article about the major studios planning release dates several years in advance and it mentions this about Bond 23.

While director Marc Forster is just now working with writers on the next Bond film for 2008, there's a 2010 date for the one after that.

That 2010 Bond pic exemplifies the latest trend. Many studios, with dates lined up for '09 and the year after that, have set marketing and merchandising plans in motion and have started talks with visual effects houses. In many cases, the only thing they lack are a director, stars, script or even a story outline.

I'd be surprised if Bond 23 was actually released during the summer when it's all said and done with. It's almost become tradition over the last decade for the Bond films to have a November/December release, and the films have done just fine financially during that time. Also, I think that it would be wise to release the films when there's usually little to no competition on the blockbuster scale that Bond is. Also, moving the film to a summer release takes away from Bond being an event movie that people flock to see and makes more like just the typical summer blockbuster that would have to compete with a handful of other summer blockbusters.

I agree. If it isn't broken, don't fix it!

The article doesnt specifically say summer 2010, its just stated as 2010. I would expect it to be November 2010, business as usual for Bond. It ain't been broken since 1995, so no need to fix it, eh?

November 19th, 2010 looks like a much better date.

Agreed. The title of this thread is not very accurate, as the article simply says "While director Marc Forster is just now working with writers on the next Bond film for 2008, there's a 2010 date for the one after that." It never indicates a summer release.

It is interesting how the scheduling game has evolved. It used to be you announced a date to let the competition to know to stay away from that weekend. In addition, now, it's making sure you have time booked with the effects houses, got the composer you want lined-up, the marketing firm, director, etc. Anyway, it is nice to see an every 2 year schedule again for the Bond movies.

You guys are right the Variety article doesn't say summer 2010 but the title at ComingSoon.net where I originally saw the story did.

http://www.comingsoo...ws.php?id=22028

The article is about Summer movies and they just threw Bond in as well. What's funny is that at the bottom of the article it states that Sony has set the Green Hornet for the summer of '09 and a possible Spider-Man 4 for the following summer which would be 2010.

I can't see Sony releasing Spider-Man 4 and Bond 23 during the same summer. They'll want to keep those apart. However if there isn't a Spider-Man 4 would Sony push Bond 23 up six months so they'll have a summer tent pole?

I agree with those who said they rather have a November release date. Bond has more room at the box office during the holidays then it would during the summer blockbuster season.

November is summer here - Bond is always a summer movie in Australia!!

This is not surprising at all. Daniel Craig will have spent 5 years as Bond as far as involvement is concerned, and that will be more than enough for him. The schedule would definitely have Craig's personal feelings on the role in mind.

Not too surprising as I already figured 2010 is when Bond 23 would be out, but still good to hear it officially confirmed.

Does anyone remember the Summer 1989 trade paper story when MGM/UA announced Bond 17 for Summer 1991 and Bond 18 for Summer 1993? Who knew?

Nice to see plans for Bond 23 for 2010. Yes, I reckon now they have a Bond under tight contract, the studio cashflow will dictate quick Bond films. I reckon Daniel Craig will want a longer gap if the producer's exercise their option for a fourth Bond. Hopefully, he'll want to come back for a fifth for a hefty pay packet but as we saw with Pierce, there's many a slip twixt cup and lip.

Hmm, DAD and CR had longer gaps and MGM went belly up during that period. Coincidence or not? :cooltongue:

The title's also not accurate in mentioning Sony, which the article doesn't mention in conjunction with Bond. As confirmed in the Hollywood Reporter story last week, Sony won't have anything to do with Bond 23; it will be MGM's show.

Probably will come out late fall/winter time as usual. This isn't the first time since LTK that the "next" Bond movie has been rumored to be a summer movie.

I would love this to be true, IF the summer isn't too packed already and/or the fall is.

Great news. I think of summer when I see a Bond film: vacation travel, water sports,romance..etc.And to get a Bond 18 months after '22...well, this is fantastic news. :cooltongue:

Finally, a Bond film in the summer! In my lifetime, LTK was the only that opened then back in '89, but obviously I didn't see it since I was less than a year old at the time. Now, does anyone want to make a guess at the actual date. I'm thinking the date should be one of the following: May 15, June 18, or July 7!

Personally, I like June 18 the best, don't know why, but there's something about the middle of June that I like, and according to imdb it's Babs' birthday.

But I obviously like July 7 for obvious reasons, I still would have prefered it if CR had opened July 7 this year (who at Sony was so stupid to release it last fall instead!).

Agreed. I lived through most of the summers when Bonds were released and those were fun and had their time. But times have changed since LTK 18 years ago. It's just one blockbuster after another week in week out.

Now I am comfortable with the Thanksgiving/holiday season slots since GE in '95. There is a wider time to keep an audience since that season offers a wider variety of movies. Summer is the time for big-budget popcorn fare, sequels and franchises.

Besides, it kind of puts me into the spirit of the early years of the franchise when films like GF, TB, OHMSS and DAF were released around that time.

Yeah I prefer the end of year release date too. Its Bond season - you get the Thanksgiving and Xmas marathons on Spike, and I'm sure most here will get a Bond related gift or two over the holidays.

You should probably look at the article carefully...nowhere does it say Bond 23 is coming out in summer 2010. All it says is 2010.

Nice to see a little bit of Bond 23 news already (even though it is a little bit nonetheless). I'd be happy either way with a summer or winter release.

Have never gotten to see a Bond film in the summer, so I wonder if it would feel much different.

I'm now hoping that they kinda start a new pattern, by taking a few less than two full years between films, mainly so that Bond 24 could open on October 7, 2012 (50 years to the day since Dr. No first opened). So, using that formula I want to say that it'll be October 22, 2010. Not likely, but my hope is that Bond 24 would open on DN's 50th Oct. 7, 2012, and since the gap between CR and 22 is just a few weeks under 2 years than they should continue to bump them up.
