Here's a scoop on the US release (simultaneous with the UK -- paperback in '09) and the first DMC location: Paris!

First DMC location revealed: Paris

:cooltongue:

(I also posted this in the official DMC thread. Mods can delate this if you like.)

Sounds exciting. Never got to see much happening in Paris other than little bits of FAVTAK and TB. Maybe there will be some action?

I'd be happy to see film Bond go to Paris, too.

Ahh Paris is certainly a very good choice! I'd also like to predict that one of the other "thrilling cities" is likely to be New York...

Not a huge surprise; Faulks is a bit of a Francophile.

I think it's mentioned in "A View to a Kill". If I remember right, Bond doesn't like Paris or French girls.

Hmm--you're probably right if two of you seem to know of it. I'll definitely have to check! :cooltongue:

He dislikes Paris, this is true, but it's more because of the people I think. He doesn't care for them at all and feels that Paris kind of whored itself out to outsiders for a reason I can't recall. So when he goes to Paris he sticks to the same routine probably to limit his contact with "them". French women.. I don't know. I think he generalizes that they only see dollar signs which is why he fantasizes about picking one up, changing her and calling her Solange. I don't really remember, but just because DMC starts there doesn't mean he likes it and/or his feelings may have changed.

And for those of you out there who are Gardner bashers, Paris plays a significant part in both NO DEALS, MR BOND and DEATH IS FOREVER.

In both of which, and Benson's book, if I recaall correctly, it is noted that Bond particularly likes Paris. Not the same opinion as that held by Fleming's Bond. :cooltongue:

Over to you for continuity, Mr Faulks.

And doesn't Bond spend some time in Paris in Tomorrow Never Dies? :cooltongue:

Of course.

And clearly Bond's attitude disproves Fleming's assertion that Bond dislikes being in Paris.

After all, as pointed out on this thread, Bond did lose his virginity in Paris. :cooltongue:

I thank you.

In FAVTAK, Bond takes "satisfaction [at] launching a last kick at a town he had cordialy disliked since the war. Since 1945, he had not had a happy day in Paris. It was not that the town had sold its body. Many towns have done that. It was its heart that was gone . . . ." He goes on to complain about the people, their eyes "sullen, envious, ashamed," and the architecture, which after seven is unable to compete with "a thundering stream of black metal."

It'll be interesting to see if Faulks rehabilitates Paris in Bond's eyes.
