Author wins award that no writer wants

Sebastian Faulks won perhaps the least welcome prize in literature

I imagine Ian might have won it too, had he lived long enough.

I am sure Ian "women like being raped" Fleming would have won this.

Fleming wasn't that graphic and he didn't use bizarre synonyms for sexual acts or organs the way the winners of this award have.

Take a look at this site that lists the previous winners and some of the language that "won"

www.bookhelpweb.com/awards/badsex/winners.htm

Anyway, I was amused to find out Faulks had won this award, especially considering the venom hurled at Benson for his sex passages.

Based on that list that DNS linked, I think Foulks wrote the least tasteless passage, by a good distance, and it does sound not unlike something one might read in a Fleming novel.

Anybody ever considered that some sex-passages are intentionally written to abrase the readers? Instead of arouse?

True. More often than not, though, it's simply the 'solitary vice' at work, performing for a crowd.

It's obvious why Benson did not win as the judges would have to actually read Benson! :cooltongue:

So, if I've got this right, this Faulks chap is known for writing a bit of smutty prose from time to time?

...Yep, he'll do for literary Bond, then.

"squeeked like wet rubber"?! I think I may be sick..

It doesn't seem like that passage denotes bad sex (errr untrained sex).. just weird sex.. which may not be so bad

errrr am I digging myself in a hole? errrrr where's the blush emoticon :cooltongue:

Granted I haven't actually read the book, but just based on the sample provided on this link it Faulks passage doesn't really seem too bad. Or is it just me?...
