I am delighted about your responses.

If anybody will find out some details (writing, symbols), just tell me . I try to improve the wallpaper.

But Daniel closed the notebook before I could see any relevant details :cooltongue:

Best regards.

This may have been addressed sometime since 1999 in these threads, but as this appears to be relevant to this thread, since when has Bond worked for British MILITARY intelligence?

Bond joined the British Secret Service after serving in the Royal Navy. While the military works hand in hand with the intelligence services, as far as I know the Secret Service is independent of the military. MI6 stands not for Military Intelligence but rather Ministry of Intelligence Department Number 6, meaning dealing with foreign, not domestic matters (equivalent of our CIA). I believe that MI6 is no longer officially known as that, but rather known as SIS, the Secret Intelligence Service. MI5 stands for Ministry of Intelligence Department Number 5, meaning dealing with domestic, not foreign matters (equivalent of our FBI). I'm not sure if MI5 is still its official designation, but I think that they are today known as the British Security Service. Despite the real life changes in the British intelligence structure in the early 1990s as John Gardner tried to make real in the world of Bond in SeaFire, in his and Raymond Benson's novels at least, 007 still works for the intelligence services outside of the military.

This may all simply be the case that the production designers simply mistook the M to stand for Military (although given that the pre-titles sequence of TWINE was in the new MI6 building and not in Whitehall as well as the establishing shot of the MI6 building in CR being the MI6 building, it is difficult to see how), and that has unfortunately for the sake of accuracy, stuck.

Anybody have any insight--especially for those who may be intelligence experts?

I was actually thinking about making a myspace page based on either the title sequence, or of the MI6 Mainframe (like when Bond is looking into Dimitrios and his known contacts).

The 'M' in MI6 does stand for Military. The British Secret Service has gone by many names since its inception in 1909. The 'Secret Service Bureau' was sometimes referred to as the 'SS Bureau' but became to be known simply as the Secret Service (as it is in the novels of Ian Fleming). The first head of the Secret Service was Captain Sir Mansfield Cumming RN who would sign himself 'MC' or just 'C' in green ink. (In Fleming's novel 'M' would use green ink as well). Every head of the service since then has always gone by the codename 'C'. During the First World War the service became MI1('c') and came under the control of the Military Intelligence Directorate. After the war Cumming managed to have the service come back under the control of the Foreign Office. The organisation then became known by several names, including the 'Foreign Intelligence Service' and 'C's Organisation'! However, during the 1920s it became increasingly referred to as the Secret Intelligence Service (SIS), the official name it is known as today as per the Intelligence Servcies Act 1994. During the 1930s and right through WWII, the service was known as MI6. During WWII there were 17 'MI' departments and it is thought that the change of title was to keep all the services within a consistent framework. The Security Service is still officially known as MI5. As works of fiction, the Bond books and films mirror the real-life secret service whereby the head goes by the codename 'M' (not'C') and the organisation is called MI6 (not SIS).

Head of S--

Thank you! I stand corrected--I always thought that M did indeed stand for Ministry. I must have read that in a Bond reference book somewhere but it was obviously a typo.

Now you have cleared up something that always bothered me about TWINE. You know, to think that the filmakers would have been that sloppy is a mistake that I should never have made.

Thanks again--and here's hoping that there is not too much egg on my face!
