Well, I think we can all agree that it will not be a contemporary continuation novel. As for me, I hate the idea of a pre-Casino Royale novel and I don't want it to take place during Ian Fleming's timeline either. I would greatly prefer the Centenary Novel to follow Colonel Sun, which I'm inclined to think will be the case. Colonel Sun is official and it occurs in September 1965 which is a little more than a year removed from The Man With The Golden Gun. While it's possible for the Centenary Novel to follow The Man With The Golden Gun and be before Colonel Sun, it seems like there would be less hang-ups were it to follow Amis' novel and would give the author a clean slate. Besides, post-Colonel Sun is still set in the heart of the Cold War and plenty of room remains for any future continuation novels between it and License Renewed.

As for who will write it, I have virtually no idea. It sounds like it will be a well-known author and that Ken Follett is out. Len Deighton and Frederick Forsyth might be good, but I'm going to guess that Barry Eisler is the man.
