The implant Villers WOULD know about because he was there when Bond was getting the shot.

Is it just me, or is that implant basically just a meaningless gadget for which the film has no payoff? As far as I recall, Bond gets the injection and then the whole thing's forgotten about. 'Course, it may turn out useful in BOND 22, but unless I'm forgetting something it serves no real purpose in CASINO ROYALE.

The implant saves Bond's perfectly formed [censored] when he's been poisoned, its what allows the MI6 doctors to identify what's killing him and how to treat it.

Oh, okay. I thought it was merely a tracking device and that some other piece of equipment transmitted the details of what was in Bond's bloodstream to the boys back home. Guess not, though.

I'll have to watch that scene again, but doesn't Bond connect his cellphone into the implant, or something?

OMG I cannot believe that you just missed out Alec Trevelyan in that list  :cooltongue:

I didn't include 006 because GoldenEye was made 12 years ago and that is long enough for people to forget it. Frost, Vesper, Dryden and Mathis are from Bond 20/21... and it could be tedious to have even more traitors in Bond 22.

How would Mathis know about the chip ?

Villiers knows, and Vesper knows. That's down to these two.

Le Chiffre says "your friend Mathis is my friend Mathis", but it might just mean that the imaginary Mathis who called Vesper for the meeting is actually Le Chiffre right arm man.

Thing is, Villiers was the one who "forgot to watch" Vesper's boy friend because he concentrated on the enemy.

But when, actually, is the Vesper boy friend plan put into motion ? When does she become under the cup of Le Chiffre and the organisation ? I doubt she is already at the beginning a double.

Compare how far apart Mathis and Vesper are to Le Chiffre. He could hear Mathis whisper.
That's what Le Chiffre meant when he said "I'm Afraid Your friend Mathis is MY friend Mathis."

It would be like me walking up to you and saying Bond has funny red clown shoes when Bond is only an inch away from us.

Nope, but Mathis does tell Villiers, when he report "the evening frivolities". Is Mathis reporting to the same people as Bond ?

I think the above "Le Chiffre heard it" theory could be, but is not how the filmmakers intended this.

Now, now...is the premise of this thread for real, or just an excuse to get Moneypenny back in M's office? Tsk tsk...

I don't think that really happened in-universe, you may aswell wonder why Bond didn't react after he shot that guy and suddenly he turned into a cartoon character in the title sequence.

I thought the whole business of being betrayed by Mathis didn't make much sense...Bond did have an Ace-high full house when he lost to Le Chifre's quad Jacks...that's a pretty damn good hand to lose with. For him to feel like he "made a mistake" with that hand didn't sound like an informed poker player(not that I am a pro but there are just two hands that beat it-straight flush and quads).Anyway, interesting theory...I always assumed Mathis would be a charming ally like Karim Bay and Columbo...

He may still be, after that surely-awkward reunion.

Many seem to forget that Bond had also told Vesper about Le Chiffre's tell. Or that Le Chiffre was surprised that Bond was able to get back into the game after losing his first 10 million.

Well I'm hoping Tobias Menzies didnt accept such a thankless role for nothing. He's way too good an actor to play a bagman. If anyone has seen him in season 2 of Rome you'll know that he's no bit part actor. So I hop there's more to his role than that.
