Having seen it three times, I just become more and more impressed by the chemistry of the train scene. It seems like the perfect template to use for future Bond girl screen tests.

Anyone agree or disagree?

It is definitely my favorite character/acting scene in the film. Both Craig and Green absolutely shine and I think it establishes the integrity of the new direction. I really hope that we get someone of Haggis' ability for the next film. It is film moments like that which will be used in 40 or 50 years if Craig wins a lifetime achievement award.

I agree. I couldn't help but get smile on my face when I saw this scene in the theatre--either the first or the third time. The dialogue is absolutely perfect. Rapid and playful. The chemistry between Craig and Green just sets the bar.

I would love to see Haggis back for Bond 22.

Paul Haggis has done some amazing work in very short time. He is the perfect balance to the Purvis/Wade approach.

Though I felt the Miami scene was a bit long, the end helped to establish what sort of man the new Bond is. The 5 seconds in which you see him smile before the bomb goes off displays just how fresh the new approach is.

For me, this is VERY bond-esque. The setting, the script, the wordrobe.

Definitely. Many Bond fans seem to wonder what sort of film Casino Royale would have been had it not gotten the Haggis polish.

Yes, probably one of the best! The music is also some of the best in the movie. I'm the Money has sucha romantic, but espionagey sounds-too bad it only lasts 20 seconds. Is this the first train scene since GoldenEye? The orphan dialogue was pricelss and really gets at the Bond character. One question: Did the "skewered lamb" comment have any special meaning? It was funny/good, but I am not sure if there was anything I was supposed to glean from it?

This scene does seem to be the watershed moment...separating the brash "hot weather" (Africa, Bahamas, Miami) scenes from the refined "European" (Montenegro/Italy) scenes after.... It also is break between impulsive/casual Bond of the early film and the methodical/formal Bond of later.

I think it was one of the best scenes in the movie. It showed that Vesper wasn't some typical "bimbo"... she's a real person, and not trying to get into Bond's pants. It was written beautifully, and it does have a lot of facts about James Bond and Vesper Lynd in that short 2 - 3 minute period!

Vesper asks him : how was your lamb?
Bond answers: Skewered, one sympathizes!

Bond meant that he sympathizes because he has just been skewered by her verbal jabs same as the lamb.Perfect delivery that has a note of astonishment that the charm didn't work on this woman this time, and a bit of admiration for her spunk!

Yes, well said annita. It was a very Cary moment, no?

It is my opinion that Bond was emplying the tone of the conversation between he and Vesper. She nailed him, and his reply was a kind gesture of that moment. So very romantic, in a literary way.

That's probably my favorite line in the whole movie. I love the way he says it.

I was also impressed by the next scene in the taxi; Craig is able to go from playful and engaging ("Stephanie Broadchest", "I hate when religion ...") to cold and distant ("No. Don't worry, you're not my type.") with one word. Great writing brought to life by two great actors. Some people have said they don't think Craig and Green had enough screen time together to make their romance believable, but those first two scenes told me everything I needed to know. Last time I saw two people click that way was the trunk scene in "Out of Sight" with Clooney and Lopez.

A real highlight, the only thing that ruined it was the 'Omega' reference. I've got absolutely no problem with product placement, but when characters actually mention the product it takes me out of the scene. Silent and seen is far greater IMHO.

The scene reminded me of one of my fave films, 'North by Northwest.' I would've love to see DC is a Hitchcock movie.

Also like the 'Moneypenny' reference.

See, your welcome to shoot me down here, but I don't think the omega reference is that bad. Vesper is obviously chastising him and mocking Bonds sense of materialism. The way she says "beautiful" is laced with sarcasm. I'm not saying its not product placement, it is, but its alot less offensive than Bond in the the 30 second Ford advert that is the opening of the Bahamas section.

Agreed. I didn't mind it that much. Vesper's lines regarding it during the scene make it work.

same here...it did serve a purpose, and it was done in a way that helped the scene, it's still a product placement, but it's one of the better ones. The Ford ad on the otherhand was too much.

the idea of using this scene to test bond actors is great because the dialogue and banter between the two is amazing. it's like watching a tennis match at wimbledon. the scene serves as a perfect way to introduce the bond girl to bond and i hope they model their future intros after this scene. watching it again made me feel sad that bond wouldn't end up with such a smart and sexy woman that obviously knows how to cut bond down a few inches. both deserve award nominations, but that's too much to ask from hollywood.

Indeed. Definitely work well along with From Russia With Love's Tatiana introduction scene.

I remember seeing it in the trailer first, espcially the line "I will keep my eyes on the government's money, and off your perfectly formed [censored]", at which I just exclaimed "OMG! I gotta see this!" outloud right there, right then in the cinemas. I recall going on YouTube that very night, uber-impatient to just darn watch it and I found a clip that said "CR Train Scene" only to find out it was shut down.

The chemistry in the movie itself was amazing, and the lines were absolutely classic! It really does set the bar, the best lines including...
* "Vesper? You must have given your parents hell for that"
* "...you went to Oxford or wherever"
* "Rolex?" - "Omega"
* "How's the lamb?" (loved this one!)
* "Even accountants have imaginations"
* "...our government will have directly financed terrorism"
* "Good evening Ms. Lynd"
* The "perfectly formed [censored]" line... the best one of all!

The Omega line does stand out, but its fine. I also forgive the Ford Ad b/c of the music.
