After seeing the movie I did notice a lot of stuff which we've seen filming but didn't make it to the final cut. Can anyone add to this list?

Bond and Vesper driving the Aston through the countryside and their conversation (as seen filming on Fifth Gear)
Bond and Vesper's naked swim
The torn ace (I may have missed this one- was it there?)
Bond falling down the steps of the casino after being drugged
The tanker driving through a plane's fuselage
The exterior of the cricket club in Pakistan
Bond's arrival on a stretcher at the hospital.

Any more?

There's another thread covering this, possibly more script focused but it seems to be covering this topic.

Well I'm not talking about what was missing from the version of the script that was leaked, but stuff that we know was actually shot and could, presumably, turn up on the DVD.

With the long run time they needed to make some cuts to the final print.

Good thread topic, marktmurphy.

By the way, it was a torn 5 of clubs, non?

hi,

firstly i would like to say hello. this is my first post, even though i have been a long time reader.

saw royale and rather enjoyed it - it seems to me that the killing of dryden's contact had more footage to it than that shown in the cinema.

i remember seeing in one of the making of doc on the official website a set up where bond enters the bathroom after his target, ppk in hand, only to be disarmed when the fight begins.

this would also explain why bond's gun was on the floor and it was necessary for him to pick it up to fire during the gun barrel.

Good point- I don't remember that but it makes sense.

More that was missing:

- Valenka's swim.

- The torn cards stuff *was* missing, MarkT. Strange that they'd just leave it out. I get the impression that this film was intensely streamlined to get it to fit the current running time. I wonder if we'll see a Director's Cut with lots of extra stuff.

- Now this one's a biggie. When Bond and Vesper are in bed in Venice, she snaps a picture of him before leaving. Later, when Bond is on the phone with M, he's looking at the pictures on the laptop and flings it into the water, where it shorts out. I saw this footage in the Sony promo.

I was about to post this topic and came to check whether I was beaten to it.

I was mainly thinking about Bond and Vesper's naked swim, and the torn card. But yes, lots more has been mentioned that didn't seem to make the final cut :)

It was noted on Film2006 with Johnathan Ross that the plane was deleted from the final cut.

I also noticed the rest. Also was there meant to be scene where Vesper was scoober diving or snorkling in the reefs?

Yeah, we heard so much in the interviews with the women that they spent so much time scuba diving. Quite disappointing that none of it was actually in the film.

- Valenka's swim.

Ah yes- there's even a shot of them filming underwater in Bond On Set.

I hope we see an extended cut of Bond and Fisher's fight in the cricket club- I get the feeling there's quite a bit more to that.

We'll just have to see what the DVD will bring us.

Can't really understand why they have to cut scenes. Surly if the naked swim was a bit too much for the censors, then surly EON and Sony can risk CR being rated 15, just for those extra miuets or so.

That struck me when I saw the film last night - that these bits were probably chopped solely for runtime. A bit disappointing, but perhaps not entirely unexpected.

Extended DVD cut, please!! :)

I think that might actually be possible- let's hope so.

Mind you, the deleted scenes from DAD never turned up, although there weren't quite as many that we knew about.

Wasn't the car chase supposed to be rather longer and more elaborate, with Bond pulling all sorts of incredible driving moves in order to dodge and overtake other vehicles? Or was that just a rumour in fandom? (It would indeed be very surprising for them to film an expensive and complicated stunt sequence and then leave it out.)

CASINO ROYALE really cries out for an extended version on DVD, and while this sort of thing appears to be against Eon tradition, I think it may be reasonably realistic to hope for one, since that good old Eon rulebook already seems to have been thoroughly torn up. Also, the amazing level of critical respect CR is getting (unprecedented for Bond, I'd have thought) suggests that the director's cut treatment would be welcomed outside hardcore 007 fandom as an artistically justified move and not just double-dipping.

I believe it was a rumor in fandom. The script describes precisely what happened on-screen, and I've seen no footage to suggest any other car chase stuff was filmed.

I think so. CASINO ROYALE has made the Bond series respectable again. I could see a really great "unrated" extended edition being released. It's true that a lot of this stuff we're talking about is pretty extraneous, but I find it odd, at the very least, that the Bond/Vesper skinny-dipping scene was cut (otherwise, you were right - CASINO ROYALE was remarkably tame in the sexual regard, so much so that I might think we were back in the Dalton days).

There also has to be some more Solange/Bond stuff. The bedroom scene felt abbreviated to me. I was surprised it ended so soon. Hope we get to see more of that.

I'm 99.9% sure there's nothing more there. That scene played out exactly as it read in the script, and even Caterina Murino said her scene was pretty short.

I believe it was a rumor in fandom.[/quote]

Thought so. Although I confess that I was looking forward to seeing it when I sat down to the film on Tuesday and was disappointed when it didn't show up. Ditto an explanation of how Bond gains entry to M's home (okay, there was never a rumour about that one, but I did assume that it would be explained, or at least that there'd be some footage of Bond breaking in), and an amazing twist that I'd been led to believe was in the Miami sequence that turned out (or so I felt, at least) not to be particularly amazing at all.

Exactly.

BTW, Harmsway, off-topic, I know, but I did want to ask you: how do you rate CR against BATMAN BEGINS? Too early to say? Both masterpieces? Bond better? Too different to compare? (Me, I think CR is by far the better film, but then I was never as much of a BB fan as you, although I do enjoy it.)

Didn't they cut similar stuff shot for DIE ANOTHER DAY? It seems bizarre that they'd film this sort of thing in the full knowledge that they'd probably end up having to discard it because, "Hey, we're making a James Bond film". I mean, it's not as though filming any scene doesn't cost tens of thousands of dollars.

I think they actually did cut a bit of Solange acting like she's orgasming out.

I am definitely looking forward to seeing some of the deleted scenes... the film really does feel like it's missing a bit.

Well, that explains why you keep harping on that "How did Bond break in?" idea, which doesn't bother me or most people in the least. I like it being left up to the imagination.

Well, I think it's too early to say. Ask me after my second viewing of CASINO ROYALE. My impressions of CASINO ROYALE are still fairly sketchy at this point. The two films may just be too different for me to compare (my love of Bond and Batman run deep in their own ways, and it would almost hurt to have to match them against one another).

At any rate, both films left me more excited about the idea of a sequel than the films did themselves, despite both being solid films in their own right.

It's true that a lot of this stuff we're talking about is pretty extraneous

Yeah, for me, I would have appreciated a lot of the extra material. But with reviews already calling the film overlong, even though they love it, I can understand why a lot of it was diced.

A the very least I want to see what was removed from Bond and Vesper's interaction. The whole "card-tearing" bit, though, is entirely unnecessary.

Precisely. DIE ANOTHER DAY *also* had a skinny-dipping scene that was reshot.

I think they actually did cut a bit of Solange acting like she's orgasming out.

Not in the cut I saw.

Is it just me or was the love scene between Bond and Vesper in the ocean shown in the trailers not in the final film? Unless I'm blind and missed it. I wonder why they would cut it out. Not a big loss and doesn't affect the film but I was just wondering. :)

Yeah, it was entirely absent. Perhaps it was cut to more easily attain PG-13, or just to streamline that final third of the film. Either way, I want to see this scene.
