Spectre, trying to give it another shot. Maybe I was too critical the first time I watched it.

For some reason, I'm hankering for A View To A Kill...

Duran Duran. Microchips. A blimp. Christopher Walken.

What more can one ask for?!

It´s been two years since my last Bond marathon, one year since I last saw any Bond film (a third viewing of SPECTRE).

The hiatus worked for me - now I´m looking forward to revisit the following films (I hope my pre-judgments will be still feel right to me after watching the filmst):

- ON HER MAJESTY´S SECRET SERVICE  (Lazenby was an interesting alternative Bond)

- DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER (in the mood for a flabby, campy outing)

- LIVE AND LET DIE (the first real reboot of the series, more courageous than CR)

- THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN (underrated and fun)

- MOONRAKER (tons of entertainment)

- FOR YOUR EYES ONLY (Serious Sir Roger was fun, too)

- DIE ANOTHER DAY (not as bad as they say)

- SPECTRE (not as bad as... well... some sequences are terrific?)

I'm interested to read your thoughts as you go through them.

The Man with the Golden Gun is quite dark and serious until the karate girls and Sheriff Pepper turn up.

Absolutely, TMWTGG is basically one of the most sinister films in the whole franchise.  It just masks itself as a ludicrous 70´s entry.

I love the final act of Golden Gun. From the moment Bond lands on Scaramanga's island to the end credits. Pure Fleming.

I prefer LALD over TMWTGG but Moore vs Lee, do you need more?

Quantum of Solace. Not the best film by far (and probably Craig's weakest), but I do love Olga Kurylenko and the film is short and sweet. Good for kiling and hour and a half. I still believe it could've benefited from an additional 15 minutes of run time, but oh well. Maybe they could've cut Spectre by 15-20 minutes and given extra time to Quantum.

Just a general thought: As the years pass I begin to reflect on things a lot more. Given I was born in 1989, the Connery/Moore Bond films have always been old. They were made well before I was even born and I simply inherited them. I'm now 28, so add at least 22 more years on top of those films from when I more or less first discovered them. Wow. Hell, Goldeneye was back in 1995 and that's classified as an old film now. But strangely, I've never really considered them relics. If anything, the footage has now taken on a life all of its own, independent of its creators and participants. These movies really are timeless.

I do wonder if, for many of us, the cutoff between old school Bond and modern Bond is simply the point at which we began seeing new entries in the theater.

I was also born in '89, and I still view all of Brosnan's entries as modern Bond, whereas everything before that was "simply inherited" (as you put it).

What do other fans think? Which Bond films do you consider "old," and why do you think that's the case?

I was 8 years old when I saw TSWLM (go figure).  Previous Moore outings AND the Connery ouevre were Bond history to me, and I naturally noticed that everything looked different in the 60´s and early 70´s.

But for me that history was a treasure trove, and while Moore was MY Bond I began to appreciate Connery (and Lazenby) a lot.

It must be fantastic to grow up now and to have about 20 unseen Bond films to check out.  And I hope these numbers will still grow for years to come.

In general: "old" or "dated" is no problem for me at all, since everything will get old and everything is dated.  The fact that Bond films represent a particular place in time is a wonderful aspect of its ageless quality, IMO.  They are like a time capsule which allows me to travel back to the point in time (and my life) when I enjoyed these films for the first time.

It's weird that the Brosnan films are older now than the Connery ones were to me when I first watched them on video in the 80s (though I did see them on the big screen eventually.)  So the films I wasn't able to see when they came out (DN up to TMWTGG) always seem old to me.  But the films up to LTK seem of that same universe even though I remember when they were "new".  Brosnan's seem "shiny" by comparison.  Still, I like re-watching them because they remind me of the times, people, and places where I first saw them.  I feel the same way about Star Trek movies too.  I wonder if Star Wars fans are now experiencing this and when this will happen for Marvel MCU movies.  Certainly Logan made me reminisce about all the X-Men movie experiences.

SPECTRE

Just realized how good DC really portrayed MI'6's :political assassin"  Worst case scenario if he doesn't return and/or the series finally ends it ends on a good note drving away in the DB V with a woman next to him.

I watched FYEO last night. It's my favourite along with FRWL. Love the locations, and plot. I really enjoy the casino, dinner and Lisl scenes.

So it's time for Octopussy next.

I'm with you, Eskyfall. I've just watched QoS and really enjoyed it. It may be DC's weakest entry, but it's still pretty damn good. Plenty of action, a quality Bond girl, real bad guys, some one liners mixed in with the seriousness of a revenge mission...it's all that I expect from a Bond flick.

Been a few years since I last saw it, but it holds up. Yeah, it's shorter than normal, but it doesn't lack any punch for that.

It's such a fun movie, even if not necessarily the best Bond film.  Moore's witticisms are at his best in this debut, and I even love quoting JW Pepper with friends.

I had been in the mood to watch Octopussy lately and now with dear old Sir Roger passing away  , I might end up doing a run of all the Roger Bonds..whether or not it will be in chronological order or just a fun mix-up, I have yet to decide..

None of them yet. Since YOLT's 50th birthday is next month, I'm thinking of watching it on its golden anniversary(June 13).

With the news of Sir Rog's passing, I'm in the mood for "Moonraker". I just watched the scene where he rescues Manuela from Jaws at Carnival and the scene where he and Holly reunite in Rio and join forces. I love their repartee here: "I still don't know if I trust you." "I don't know if I trust you either. That's what makes it more exciting, doesn't it?"
